  2. 49ers first puntpublished at 23:35 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

San Francisco have to kick it away for the first time in the game, in what could just be a bit of a change of momentum coming up now.

They should have had the ball around midfield but for that awful penalty on the punter - now the defence has to get a stop, without Nick Bosa.

  3. Big conversionpublished at 23:31 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

Jauan Jennings comes up with a huge catch to convert the third down from Jimmy Garoppolo's pass.

San Fran really backed up here in their own half and scrapping for every yard.

Massive blow for San Francisco with Nick Bosa ruled out for the rest of the game. He's their defensive giant so that is some blow.

  5. Niners take overpublished at 23:27 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

Dallas eventually have to punt again - twice actually as we get a doink off the TV screen at AT&T Stadium - another design flaw in Jerry Jones' fancy home of the Cowboys.

This time, and 49ers special teams manage not to hit the punter and San Fran get the ball back, but this time right on their own line.

  6. Missed pick!published at 23:24 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

Jimmie Ward should've picked off Prescott there when Dak goes for the house with a deep pass into the end zone.

It was a bit floaty and Ward really should've caught that ball, but Dallas get away with it.

  7. Bonehead play alertpublished at 23:22 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

Special teams and penalties make all the difference, how many times do we need to keep saying it? Well, someone should tell these two teams, this time the 49ers who come up with a ridiculous penalty to let Dallas keep the ball.

The Cowboys are punting and yet the 49ers come charging in and hit the punter on his plant leg - that's roughing the kicker, that's 15 yards and that's a first down!

Kyle Shanahan is disgusted on the sidelines as they'd done the hard work and got Dak off the field.

  8. Sack on Dakpublished at 23:19 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

Arik Armstead comes up big with the sack on Dak Prescott as that drive really got away from Dallas with the penalties.

  9. Back on the fieldpublished at 23:17 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

The second half kicks off in Arlington - and crucially Dallas have the ball. Let's see if they can start like the 49ers did.

Uh - and just as we say that the Cowboys have back-to-back penalties to go from third and four to third and 14!

Elijah Mitchell has three run plays for the 49ers, without getting far, to bring us to the half in Dallas.

The Cowboys got some offence going in the second quarter but the 49ers kicked a couple of field goals to stay clear and make it a nine-point game.

All to play for when these two NFL powerhouses come back out for the second half.

  14. Cowboys forced to puntpublished at 23:04 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott fires a pass down the middle towards Cedrick Wilson on third and 20, and the wide receiver appears to be completely unsighted as he lets the ball go right by him.

The Texas sun is glaring through the glass at the the top of the AT&T Stadium. It's one thing building a big shiny new stadium but if it means your players can't even see the ball...

The Cowboys have to punt with 34 seconds to the half.

  15. ouch!

Ouch! Bosa out for 49erspublished at 22:58 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

Dalton Schultz makes another catch for a first down but an offensive holding penalty on the next play puts the Cowboys back on halfway.

San Francisco's defensive end Nick Bosa also suffered a blow to the head on the play and has to come off to be assessed.

  16. First down for Dallaspublished at 22:54 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott's radar is a little off as he throws slightly behind Cedrick Wilson, then a screen pass to Ezekiel Elliott hits the deck.

But Prescott then finds tight end Dalton Schultz for 12 yards to move the chains.

  17. Dallas driving on two-minute warningpublished at 22:48 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

The last drive went swimmingly for the Cowboys. They could do with a repeat if they're to cut the deficit again before the break as there's just 3:03 to the half.

They're soon on third and one, and Ezekiel Elliott does just enough to claim a first down right before the two-minute warning.

  18. field goal

    Field goal - 49erspublished at 22:45 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 16-7 Dallas Cowboys

Jimmy Garoppolo makes a big play to Brandon Aiyuk on the first play on the 49ers drive, with the wide receiver still going after the catch to claim 37 yards.

Defensive end Dorance Armstrong then bats down a Garoppolo pass on third and six, leaving Robbie Gould to kick his third field goal of the first half, this time from 52 yards.

  19. touchdown

Touchdown - Cowboyspublished at 22:39 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 13-7 Dallas Cowboys

Then on third and five, Dak Prescott drops back to float a pass to the corner of the end zone, and it drops right into Amari Cooper's arms to get the Cowboys on the board. Cooper didn't even have to break his stride for that 20-yard touchdown.

Nine plays for 67 yards - that drive seemed remarkably straightforward for Dallas, and they're right back in it after a slow start.

  20. Dallas finally get goingpublished at 22:36 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

San Francisco 49ers 13-0 Dallas Cowboys

So Dallas are learning on their run game on this drive, churning out a few yards at a time to get into San Francisco territory for the first time.

Dak Prescott then finds Cedrick Wilson, who grabs a chunk of yards after the catch for the Cowboys' biggest play of the day - 18 yards.

They're now up to the 49ers' 25-yard line.
