"An unfamiliar name, but a great story. Britain's 25-year-old Shelayna Oskan-Clarke, who ran a huge personal best of almost two seconds in the semi-finals to make it into today's 800m final, is both a former English Schools 400m champion (hence the speed) and a former hockey player (hence the endurance and elbows). Much credit must go to her coach Ayo Falola, who is suffering from terminal cancer yet continuing to do what he has always done - getting the best out of his athletes while also being one of the nicest men in British athletics."

Oskan-Clarke, now 25, competes in the final of the World Championship 800m final having ran sub-two minutes to win her semi-final.

    Yup, she won her semi-final!

She'll be up against reigning world champion Eunice Sum of Kenya, while Canada's Melissa Bishop and Belarusian Marina Arzamasova both ran under 1:58 to qualify.

By the way, USA's Ashton Eaton threw 63.63m - nearest rival Damian Warner managed 63.50. Eaton has a 256-point lead over Warner.

In English, that means Eaton is highly unlikely to have the gold taken from him, with just the 1500m remaining.

One of the most recognisable faces in athletics, Croatia's Blanka Vlasic (above), is going for her third world title.

She faces a familiar foe in Russia's Olympic champion Anna Chicherova.

And here's one for those born before 1980 - Ruth Beitia, 36, also competes.

The Spaniard, planned to retire at the end of 2012, but changed her mind and won a bronze medal at the 2013 Worlds in Moscow. Good decision Ruth.
