No man has won both 200m and 400m gold at the same championships since the great one, Michael Johnson in 1995.

Can Wayde van Niekerk double up this time? He breezed into the 400m final by running 44.22 over the weekend and that remains his stronger event.

Mind you when you can run the 100m in under 10 seconds, the 200m in under 20 seconds and the 400m in under 44 seconds you don't really have a weak event...

Van Niekerk is in heat three.

A grey but warm early evening in the London Stadium, with arguably the highest quality contest of the championships to bring it to a peak. The women's 1500m is stacked - world champion Genzebe Dibaba; Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon; the fastest woman in the world this year, Sifan Hassan; Caster Semenya, Olympic champion over 800m. And then there are the British two - national record holder Laura Muir, double Olympic finalist Laura Weightman. Pick the right 1-2-3 out of there and beyond and you're doing well.

    Men's 200m heats

Yohan Blake is in the first 200m heat. A 19.26 man at his best - ludicrously fast. He may get through a second slower than that tonight.

The first three go through in each heat remember.

  5. Will GB hit their target?published at 18:27 British Summer Time 7 August 2017

UK Sport has set Great Britain a target of six to eight medals. Mo Farah's gold in the 10,000m on Friday is the only medal Britain has won so far. That total could improve tonight as double European indoor champion Laura Muir goes in the 1500m final.

Kelly Sotherton, former British heptathlete, told BBC Radio 5 live: "We're supposed to have home advantage and the team will look at things they can do better, but it's a bit premature to judge the British performance this early. We should have this conversation next weekend."

"There are lots of great youngsters who could potentially use this home advantage and step up. We can't be too downbeat at the moment.

"We have put so much pressure on the team and that hasn't been dealt with very well. The success of the championships - are they viewed on how many medals the team win or how well we've hosted the championships?"

This is one of the most popular gathering points for fans while they wait for the action to start. It's the only place inside the London Stadium that gives a decent vantage point of the athletes' warm-up area and gives the fans a chance to get really close.

Many will hide away in the tents, so you have to be patient if you're waiting to see someone in particular. On Friday, Mo Farah received a huge cheer as he emerged to do some light work before his 10,000m final. This was relayed onto the stadium's big screens, the crowd's first chance to see Mo that evening, resulting in even louder cheers!
