We have a text from a genuine Olympian here. If it is the Brian Green that is.

    A fair point?

I take issue with Michael Johnson saying that our great Mo Farah makes a huge sacrifice by training abroad for months at a time. Having to work 9 til 5 and train on a tarmac path at 7pm and then using holiday time for major games is a real sacrifice. Arriving home from Olympics late at night then having to be in work 8.30 next morning like I did. Mo and the rest lead a privileged life. No sacrifice needed.

Russian Maria Lasitskene, competing as an independent athlete, won gold in Beijing two years ago and boasts the top 10 jumps of 2017. The 24-year-old has won her past 22 competitions and is the clear favourite. Among the chasing pack are two British heptathletes by trade - Morgan Lake and Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

We've just seen Usain Bolt and co in the warm-up track. Bolt with shades on and a languid stride, he could not look more relaxed.

Is it gold again tonight? Can the Brits get a medal?

He may have 'only' ran 20.52 in the 200m to not reach the final but Usain Bolt believes having team-mate Yohan Blake in the team bodes well tonight.

"We have been training that relay, there were some cramps," he said after this morning's heats.

"Still there were some mistakes. Yohan Blake coming in for the final is definitely good."

Team-mate Julian Forte said: "I really just wanted to get the baton round."

    Quite right...

Wayde van Niekerk has been talked up as the next 'face of athletics' but for all his ability and talent he's not Usain Bolt is he?

Usain Bolt is uniquely fit for the role he took on.

He doesn't try to be who he is. He just is what he is.

Nobody can be him! Nobody can be Usain Bolt.

To say someone could be the next Usain Bolt is ridiculous.

After a few flat nights and questions over the scheduling, this is one of the humdingers - a complete sell-out in the stadium, not even a single seat to be had anywhere in the place, the Jamaican and GB flags being hawked by street traders on the way in, the weather warm and the anticipation tangible.

Being a long distance athlete like Mo Farah is actually boring! You have to take yourself away from everything and dedicate your time to training camps and recovery.

He has no time to live the "celebrity" lifestyle.

You have got to get your head in that mindset. There will be plenty of time for people to get to know Mo in his retirement.

Mo Farah had to run so hard for that 10,000m last week.

We have not seen him have to work that hard in any of those previous global doubles - it has come easier in previous years.

The key thing for him tonight will be to stay on his feet.

    Women's 3,000m steeplechase

The women's 3,000m steeplechase... hard to believe as the event is not usually one to light up a meet.

However, last night's race was full of excitement and drama. And more success for the States.

Watch the moment one of the favourites for the title, Kenya's Beatrice Chepkoech, went the wrong way, nearly missing the first water jump here.

But here is the moment Emma Coburn beat compatriot Courtney Frerichs to lead home an American one-two.

Did you know:The last American to win the steeplechase at a major event was Horace Ashenfelter at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. He was a full time FBI agent with four sons at home. He managed to fit in training in the local park by moonlight, using benches as hurdles.
