South Africa's double Olympic champion Caster Semenya has not lost over two laps since 2015.

The South African star continues to compete under question marks over her testosterone levels and the advantage they may give her in competition. IAAF research is currently in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport to determine the eligibility of hyperandrogenous athletes like Semenya. She is a superb athlete to watch.

Also in the medal mix could be Francine Niyonsaba, American Ajee Wilson and Kenyan Margaret Wambui.

    Women's discus final

Sandra Perkovic has thrown four discus (disci?) within a metre of each other. Consistency of a champion.

Her second, and best, of 70.31m has her in pole position for gold once more.

Elvis Costello on the latest montage? Yes please.

    Clear, clear, clear, clear.

It's over 2.32m for leader Mutaz Barshim who is fulfilling his promise so far. He's done 2.43m in the past...

Britain’s Lynsey Sharp made the final in controversial circumstances after she was initially disqualified for impeding American Charlene Lipsey when approaching the finish line. However, that decision was successfully appealed and she got through as a fastest loser in 1:59.47.

That's the end of the road for Robbie Grabarz, his coach has his head in his hands. His clearance of 2.25m leaves him in fifth.

No medal for the Olympic bronze medallist. Fine margins.

Sixth place for Laura Muir in that company is exceptional. I think this young lady is going to win a gold medal in a significant event in the not too distant future.

    Women's 5,000m final

Laura Muir is a fine sixth in her first major 5,000m final, with Eilish McColgan 10th.

Hellen Obiri's winning time of 14:34:86 may be 16 seconds outside of her PB but the first three laps were basically a walk.

An incredible last lap! Hellen Obiri takes Almaz Ayana to pieces on the last lap.

She looks like she could do it all over again too.

It's silver for Ayana with Sifan Hassan taking bronze.

Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan remain a long way back from the athletes in third and fourth. But Muir is on the move. That middle kilometre has ruined a few pairs of legs.

    Women's 5,000m final

The gold and silver look like they have been decided. Almaz Ayana and Hellen Obiri are in a class of their own. They've done a 5:40 2km in the middle of the race. Shredding the field.

    Women's 5,000m final

The camera has to zoom right out to get the chasing pack even in the same shot. Hellen Obiri and Almaz Ayana are almost 100m clear.

This is punishing, devastating pace. Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan are working so hard to stay in sight of third.

    Women's 5,000m final

Almaz Ayana is going for it here but Hellen Obiri is staying with her. The world record of 14.11 is safe because of that slow first three laps. But this pace is frightening.

The main group has closed in on the second group. It's a 13-woman fight for the bronze.
