    Women's 800m final

    BBC Radio 5 live

Britain's Lynsey Sharp, who finished eighth in the women's 800m, told BBC Sport:

"Obviously that is the worst result I could have had. I committed from the first lap, I didn't just want to go through the motions. But I just didn't have the legs with 250m to go.

"It's been hard to get to this point, so I'm proud of that."

She was the favourite, and Olympic champ Sandra Perkovic has world gold as well.

Her throw of 70.31m in the second round takes it.

Dani Stevens of Australia finds a huge PB of 69.64 to take silver with Melina Robert-Michon of France in third.

Next on track is Britain’s Chris O’Hare. He warmed up for London 2017 by breaking John Robson’s 38-year-old Scottish record and his form during the rounds has suggested he could be in the medal shake-up along with the only survivor from the Rio 2016 podium – bronze medallist Nick Willis of New Zealand.

Reigning European champion Filip Ingebrigtsen, 24,has been tipped to challenge and perhaps deliver another Norwegian celebration following their unexpected 400m hurdles triumph from Karsten Warholm.

  16. Can the US beat the record books?published at 20:07 British Summer Time 13 August 2017

United States are currently on 27 medals in London.

The most medals won at a World Championships?

East Germany in 1987, with 31.

Now. It's since been established that state-sponsored, systematic doping of East German sportsmen and women was administered by the country's secret police, the Stasi, from the late 1970s up to the reunification with West Germany in 1990.

But many of the records and achievements of that era still stand.

It's an interesting subject, and if you wanted to learn more about it, here's a good place to start.

Lynsey Sharp accelerates through the top bend as she warms up in preparation for this final. Nobody wants to get an injury like Usain. Stay warm.

Caster Semenya looks as serene as ever but keep an eye on American Ajee Wilson. She has been magnificent in qualifying and likes to sprint it from the gun. If she goes out she could be a cat amongst the African pigeons.
