    Women's 5,000m final

Almaz Ayana and Hellen Obiri have devastated the field in one lap. There are five athletes in a second group with the peloton a further 30m back. Both British women are in that main, rear group. Conservation time.

    Women's 5,000m final

Hellen Obiri and Almaz Ayana have had enough of the pedestrianisation of this race - they go for it. Opening up a big gap in the space of 300m

These two Scottish runners - Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan - have grown up running together. It would be wonderful to see them get up the field together.

    Women's 5,000m final

The two Brits are in the middle of the pack, the pace or lack of at the start of this race means that it could well come down to who has the best kick over the last 400m. Fascinating.

An 81-second opening lap, almost the pace that you or I could manage! Almost. Eight minutes maybe in my case.

It's very, very, very slow though. They are barely jogging. Interesting tactics.

    Liz McColgan

Former 10,000m World champion (plus mum and coach to Eilish), Liz McColgan: "As her coach I know Eilish is in really good shape. Sometimes you need a bit of luck too. She has such a rollercoaster to get here - much more than other people.

"I am so proud of her as her mum and her coach because I know what she has been through. I hope she gets the finish she deserves.

"She's not going to win it - there are two Kenyan girls who will make it very hard for her - but there are about seven girls who could take the bronze and Eilish is one of them".

    Women's 5,000m final

Liz McColgan - Eilish's mum - just told us that she's very nervous about this race, as her daughter is in good enough shape to challenge for the medals.

Could we see another fourth place for GB?!

Her and Laura Muir get huge ovations down on the line.

Paula Radcliffe tells us that the second half of Almaz Ayana's ludicrous 10k win last week would have broken the championship record over 5k.

    INSANE.

Britain’s Laura Muir looked tired in making this final following her exertions to come fourth in a tough race in the 1500m. She finished seventh in a quick heat to qualify as a fastest loser. She is yet to win a major medal at this distance and a podium place would be a huge achievement. Compatriot Eilish McColgan came fourth in a slower heat to qualify automatically for the final.

    Women's 5,000m final (19:35 BST)

If reigning world champion Almaz Ayana finds her best form the rest of them may as well stay at home.

The Ethiopian won the 10,000m title at these championships by more than 45 seconds (FORTY-FIVE!). Ayana, who has barely raced this year due to injury, was second fastest in qualifying with 14:57.06 minutes, a season’s best.

In a strong field fellow Ethiopian Senberi Teferi, a silver medallist in Beijing two years ago, was third fastest in qualifying and she is also third fastest in the world this year.
