    Men's 200m heats

The fourth heat of the men's 200m and this is a close one. With 70m to go it's tight but Kyle Greaux gets it done in 20.19. Kenneth Bednarek of the US pulls up with what looks like a clear hamstring issue in the closing 50m. These guys are finely tuned and his body just can't hold up.

Greaux through with Yancarlos Martinez of Dominican Republic and Reynier Mena of Cuba (20.52).

  2. Bradshaw clears 4.70mpublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

Holly Bradshaw stands and waits, pole resting on her shoulder. She's in the zone...

...and she's up and over 4.70m on her first attempt!

  4. Fraser-Pryce to leave the 200m...published at 18:28 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

A few words trickling through that Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will not compete in the 200m competition from tomorrow. She is of course in 100m action later on.

More on that as we get it.

Anyway, anyone for some chat on the lack of spectators in the stadium. Good. More on that next...

Yohan Blake looks like he's struggling a little bit around the bend - but he always looks that way! He's had so many injuries to deal with over the past three years. This 200m may be an opportunity for him.

Alex Quinonez looked really, really good.

    Women's pole vault final

In a terrific bit of sass in the women's pole vault final, Anzhelika Sidorova has just cleared the opening height of 4.50m with ease, and then shooed a cameraman out of her way so she can see the screen. Lovely stuff.

  7. Yohan makes it through...published at 18:25 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Men's 200m heats

Heat three of the men's 200m. Yohan Blake of Jamaica. I once chased him outside BBC Sport with a cricket bat. True story and more on that in a second.

Off they go, Blake starts poorly but finds a groove and in lane nine he moves away with Alex Quinonez of Ecuador. A cracking run from Quinonez and he's home in 20.08 to Blake's 20.23.

Anyway, back to the cricket bat. Some five years ago Blake came into the BBC and said he was considering a cricket career. That led to me having to run after him to get an adequate photo shortly after he had left.

Hey presto. You can read about it here.

Rob Elmore: Come on Holly Bradshaw! My £5 bet will make me £130 better off!

  9. Bradshaw clears opening heightpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Women's pole vault final

The women's pole vault is just getting under way, and Great Britain's Holly Bradshaw has nailed the opening height of 4.50m with ease.

    Men's 200m heats

    Michael Johnson
Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

I wanted Zharnel to look a little better at the finish of the race - that concerns me. He looked as though he was struggling to hold his lead a little at the end. I think that's a result of those 100m races.

I would have liked to have seen him look a little more relaxed at the end of this and hold that first place position.

    Colin Jackson

I was always slightly worried what Zharnel's legs would be like but he was clear and controlled. I think this is a good qualification for him.

  12. 'Time for some sleep'published at 18:19 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Men's 200m

    BBC Sport

Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes speaks to BBC Sport: "Tonight was just about qualifying. My coach said I know you are mentally tired but just go out, execute, get through, then get treatment and I will be fine.

"I know once I get some rest I will be fine. Last night I didn't get any sleep as I was held up by anti-doping. I will come back tomorrow and be fresh."

  13. Hughes eases through...published at 18:16 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Men's 200m heats

Zharnel Hughes runs a lovely bend for Great Britain and leads with 100m to go but Xie Zhenye of China reels him in. Hughes will go through in second, with Anaso Jobodwana of South Africa in third.

    A 20.24 for Hughes, a season's best. Job done.

    Saj Chowdhury
    BBC Sport in Doha

For those who have not ventured to this part of the planet, let me tell you that it comes alive after dark and sadly does the traffic.

Another quirk I've noticed is that you can be held at a red light for more than seven minutes.

Getting to the venue might be tricky for some for the later than usual scheduled programme.

Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes goes in heat two. China's Xie Zhenye has the best run of this season in this field though with a 19.88. And a reminder, last night's 100m champion Christian Coleman is not competing as he withdrew after his golden moment.

  16. 'Good confidence booster for Gemili'published at 18:11 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Michael Johnson
Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

Gemili looked really good here. That time, in the first round, is a really good performance against a great field. He looks really relaxed.

It's a seasons best for him - he hasn't run that fast in quite some time. It's a really good confidence booster for him. He looks determined. I believe his strategy would have been to come out and try and build confidence for himself. Great job.

  19. Gemili through smartly...published at 18:10 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Men's 200m heats

We have some drama as we think we hear two guns at the start but the field take no notice and thrust forward. Adam Gemili is looking mustard here and opens up a gap to clock 20.06.

Turkey's Ramil Guliyev, the defending champion, comes home in second. Gemili had a lovely, smooth rhythm though and that is a cracking run.

A season's best for the Brit.

This is a pretty strong heat. With Oduduru in, it has a different look to it. He's come in fresh, while Adam has a bit in his legs from yesterday. He's got a lot to prove to himself. We know what he's capable of but he'll have set his own high standards.
