This was always Gemili's best chance. He would have loved to have made it to the 100m final and he almost did. His job is made a tad more difficult with Divine Oduduru in his heat.

    Gemili in action

The men's 200m heats are about to roll and Adam Gemili is in heat one.

There are seven heats in all and three go through from each. That will give us 21 semi-finalists and there are three fastest loser places on offer too, taking us to 24.

Gemili had a poor day in the 100m yesterday but maybe that loosened him up for this.

Like buses we could get three at once, or like buses they might not turn up like expected.

But let's look at this glass half full - or full in the case of sticky Doha.

Dina Asher-Smith and Holly Bradshaw have a great chance to pick up their first major outdoor medals.

Asher-Smith, who has shone in the Diamond League this season in the 100m and 200m, eased through her heat to reach the semis. She's already beaten the best in the world this season.

And Bradshaw, who I spoke to twice this week and each time seeming very relaxed, needed only one attempt to clear 4.60m for a place in the final.

They'll no doubt be cheered on by a hu..maybe not.

Then there's the British quartet in the first 4x400 mixed relay final.

    Stay tuned.

  6. Coleman withdraws from 200mpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Men's 200m heats (18:05 BST)

On that note - Christian Coleman has pulled out of the men's 200m heats after his gold medal winning 100m run yesterday.

Coleman was set to appear in the second heat but has withdrawn to give himself more time to recover.

His manager said in a text to Reuters: "He is sore from yesterday and didn't leave the stadium until after 1am. Couldn't take the strain today."

Women's pole vault final (18:01 BST)

    Denise Lewis
Olympic heptathlon gold medallist on BBC TV

You stick to your game plan. The environment isn't going to change much - Holly knows the wind won't kick up or it'll start to rain. She has to be confident in what she's done.

She's been competing with all these women this year. It's fierce, it's tough, but she knows there's a great opportunity here.

  9. Is it Holly's night?published at 17:58 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Pole Vault (18:01 BST)

As Holly Bradshaw sits and chills out down near the competition area, her coach Scott Simpson tells BBC Sport she is "in a great spot".

He says: "She's been on a journey but in the last 18 months there has been a change in her holistic approach to training. She is more relaxed and has reduced the pressure and expectation on her to allow her to be at her best."

Bradshaw looks ultra focused and applauds as some of her rivals are introduced. Up she gets for a few jogs and loosening movements.

Her coach continues: "Of course people talk in terms of success with medals. The key to Holly is go out and enjoy herself. That will bring out the best in her. If she jumps to her ability, she truly has a shot."

  10. Portugal chalk one up...published at 17:54 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

Here is that medal table in a little more detail.

Portugal got on there in the early hours of the morning with a silver in the men's 50km walk courtesy of 43-year-old Joao Vieira, who became the oldest medal winner in World Championship history.

  11. 'Coleman reaction will be mixed'published at 17:52 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Men's 200m heats (18:05 BST)

    Michael Johnson
Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

The reaction to Christian Coleman, I think, will be mixed in America, similar to around the world. It's always going to have that unfortunately for him, because of the mistakes he made, it will have that tinge of "he's controversial".

In this climate, where we've had so many athletes who have tested positive and brought disrepute on the sport, fans of the sport have very little tolerance of that.

  12. The golden moment...published at 17:51 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    United States lead the way

If you've been tuned out from the World Athletics Championships so far, Great Britain are currently without a medal, while the US top the medal table on four (two gold and two silver).

The most noteworthy medal of course so far was that of Christian Coleman - who took 100m gold in a time of 9.76 seconds.

Guess what? You can watch it right here....

So empty seats or no empty seats, we have business to attend to.

The action gets going at 18:01 BST, where Great Britain's Holly Bradshaw - pictured above - is a medal hope.

Greece has recent Diamond League winner Katerina Stefanidi in the field and she is a strong hope. I like her already as she competes in pole vault but is said to be scared of heights.

Now there's a woman conquering her fears and then some.

    Michael Johnson
Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

It matters to the athletes. There was a fanastic build-up to the 100m, I'll give credit to them for that, but for all of the other events and the 100m itself there's been no-one in the stands. Fifteen minutes after the race, they were cleaning up the stadium. It was empty. It doesn't feel right.

  16. Empty stadiums 'shocking'published at 17:38 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Denise Lewis
Olympic heptathlon gold medallist on BBC TV

I walked into the stadium tonight and looked around and said "is this the World Championships?" We waited until October to have stands like this - empty. It's shocking.

I don't think it's right. Our governing body has let our athletes down, massively. I didn't expect it to be this bad. We want to see people. The athletes deserve people, an energy and an atmosphere to thrive on.

So welcome one and all. Once more, the stadium in Doha is practically empty. Denise Lewis and Michael Johnson are saying some strong words on the matter right now on BBC Two.

You can watch all of the action by clicking play in the top of this live feed.

On the plus side, we have five gold medals being handed out tonight, including one in the women's 100m where Lewis says Dina Asher-Smith is "on the cusp of greatness".

Drink it in people. You've got the best seat in the house and there are probably more people on your train or in your living room than there are track side.
