The 800m is that sort of race where if you put yourself in the right position and you have the sort of attitude and mindset that Ben Pattison brought into this final, then great things can happen for you.

    We've got to be honest.

No-one was picking out 21-year-old Ben Pattison as a medal winner before these championships but that is exactly what he did earlier.

He battled his way through a wide-open 800m semi-final, holding on for bronze in a mad dash for the line.

    He was stunned afterwards...

magwitch5151: Ben Pattison was absolutely brilliant. Ran a perfect race to get the Bronze. I see a Golden future for this lad from Basingstoke. And such a nice polite humble lad. Makes you proud to be British.

4mulawun: Eugene Amo-Dadzie is a brilliant runner and I love his interviews, can't wait to see this guy race again. The whole team did well against tough opponents. Women's 4x1 team was absolutely superb as well! Well done!

Jenniferfebrua1: Daryll Neita had three finals and eventually got a medal. Good for her.

richdee22: Daryll Neita is a star. She’s going to win us plenty more medals in the coming years.

The women's 5,000m final was built up as one of the most exciting of the championships with Faith Kipyegon, Sifan Hassan and Gudaf Tsegay doing battle.

In the end there was no stopping Kipyegon with Hassan denied for a third time in Budapest.

Kipyegon broke three world records earlier this year and leaves Hungary as 1500m and 5,000m champion - positioning herself as one of the biggest stars of the sport.

Great Britain's men's relay team spoke to BBC Sport after their fourth-placed finish.

Zharnel Hughes said: "Jeremiah set it up nicely. I knew he was going to do his thing. I did my bit and handed off to Adam and trusted him that he would roll and he did his thing."

Adam Gemili: "We work really hard as a relay team. I know I can run a great bend and that's what they put me on the third leg for, just to stay in the mix, stay in contention and I believe I did that. Our aim was to give Eugene a chance. This guy [Eugene Amo-Dadzie] has come in and had such limited practice and experience with the team and he's done a great job. We were close."

Eugene Amo-Dadzie: "This is a massive learning experience. I'm going to bank that, for real. This is the beginning of a really, really beautiful partnership and team right here.

Of course, I'm disappointed not to be able to anchor the boys home to some hardware. I'm tremendously proud of the guys and thankful to the team. Honestly, to get me to this point has been an unreal effort from everybody."

I'm glad I was able to put the team in a great position and then giving it to Imani and let her charge down that back straight, she did her thing, boy!"

Imani-Lara Lansiquot: "This is honestly the most inspiring era of British female sprinting. I can't portray that enough. Being around these girls, warming up together, it just inspires me with so much belief."
