Carl Frampton stopped Australian Luke Jackson in the ninth round of their featherweight contest at Windsor Park in Belfast on Saturday night.
Frampton, 31, dominated throughout and Jackson's corner threw the towel in as the home fighter teed off on the previously unbeaten Australian.
The Northern Irishman dropped his opponent a round earlier with an explosive body shot.
Frampton's next bout is likely to be for a world title later this year, with promoter Frank Warren confirming Frampton will fight IBF champion Josh Warrington.
Tyson Fury vowed to knock out WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder as their bout was confirmed in the aftermath of the English fighter's dominant win over Francesco Pianeta.
The pair exchanged words as Fury's promoter Frank Warren said the bout was "official" and added more details would be made public in the next week.
Wilder said Fury would "experience" being knocked out for the first time.
Fury, 30, won all 10 rounds to secure a points win over Pianeta in Belfast.
"One thing I promise when I go to Las Vegas is I am knocking you out," he told Wilder, 32.
The American, who was holding his belt as the pair took turns on the microphone at Windsor Park, responded: "He has never had the WBC belt. If he even thinks about that belt, he better wake up and apologise to me as he will never have this."
Barnes loses world title shot
Paddy Barnes failed in his bid to win the WBC world flyweight title as he was stopped in the fourth round by champion Cristofer Rosales at Windsor Park.
Barnes was unable to recover from a brutal body shot from the Nicaraguan.
The pair had slugged out the previous three rounds in the middle of the ring, with both fighters backing themselves going toe-to-toe.
Rosales has won 19 of his 28 fights by knockout while Barnes suffers a first loss in six professional fights.

All round tonight, Tyson Fury and Carl Frampton will go away more than happy with what they have done.
They have not just won but set themselves up for big, big dates. The atmosphere here, the whole occasion, is something that everybody here felt tonight.

Quote MessageCarl was a lot better than Jackson. I do firmly believe he will beat Josh Warrington. If I were Warrington, Carl Frampton would be the last person I would fight, especially in a voluntary defence.
BBC Radio 5 live
Carl Frampton speaks to BBC Radio 5 live: "I was happy, comfortable. I felt fresh but felt I was trying to land the perfect shot at times.
"I know myself I still have it but I have to prove it with performances like that. Warrington is a different fight all together I know that. I want it and it's an easy fight to make. It makes sense."

Carl Frampton speaks to BT Sport: "I will have a break with my family for a week. I'll sit down with the team when I get back but Josh Warrington is the one. He's here, he's keen and I'm as keen as mustard."
IBF world featherweight champion Josh Warrington on BT Sport: "He looked nice and relaxed in there. A lot of expectation and you want to perform, he did just that. I want to get the fight. I'm still ranked behind Carl and I'd like to be number one at Christmas.
"I have a lot of respect for this man (Frampton). There are a few things where I think I can beat him. You see a few things we can take away."
And here is Frank Warren himself: "We are going to make this fight this year, it is on."
Frank Warren has just said Carl Frampton will be fighting Josh Warrington later this year. Another big night to look forward to. That's the IBF world featherweight title on the line.
Carl Frampton reacts to his win on BT Sport: "The fans were unbelievable, the noise from start to finish. He was right in there, he is a real credit and his corner threw the towel in.
"I was sat having a meal at 5pm and I was nervous, my hand was shaking, some extra nerves.
"We have Josh Warrington in the ring here, we are both with Frank Warren and hopefully we can make a fight. I'd love to be a world champion again."
Andrew Priestley: That was a boxing masterclass from Carl Frampton. Poor Luke Jackson looked like was chasing shadows all night, he just couldn’t get close the Jackal.

Not the most perfect performance. There were moments of Jackson success as Frampton has some marks on him. In the end, his extra size and class proved the difference. He probably felt Jackson's power and knew he couldn't be hurt.

Carl Frampton steps up onto the ropes above us and punches the air. A famous, famous Belfast night and a fantastic performance. If that is to be his last appearance in this city, what a way to sign off. He is lifted aloft.
In the end he subdues Luke Jackson and breaks the resistance of a man many said would be gone long before halfway. Now it's all on course for Josh Warrington and a challenge for the IBF world featherweight title.
Another attack from Carl Frampton rocks Luke Jackson once more. Jackson just stops, taking a lot of punishment, and that is the signal for the towel to come in from his corner.
It is all over, Frampton wins it and is still the interim WBO featherweight champion
The bell saves Jackson. He was in trouble at the end of the eighth. Will Frampton finish this in the next three minutes?
Round 8: Carl Frampton v Luke Jackson
A brutal left hook then a crushing body shot sends Jackson to the canvas. Jackson gets up and shows great character. But Frampton attacks again...
Round 8: Carl Frampton v Luke Jackson
But this one still has some life in it. Luke Jackson is still in there, still hoping, and still swinging the arms, looking for a magic moment.
