  2. Final thoughts...published at 23:41 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Khan beats Vargas

And so, that last entry sums up my confused thoughts. I'm not even going to go into what would happen if Amir Khan took on Manny Pacquiao because it seems that fight has been chased for even longer than the Kell Brook encounter has been hyped.

A Manny Pacquiao on form - and let's be honest, he spends a lot of time doing good work in his homeland now - then surely he would start favourite.

But kudos to Khan for making it 33 wins from 37 bouts tonight. He got up off the floor, walked through the odd storm and all the history books will show is the W.

  3. What to think?published at 23:37 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Khan beats Vargas

I just don't know what to think.

On one hand, Amir Khan is rusty, who wouldn't be? He's had very few rounds recently. The last time he went the distance was in May of 2015.

So in many ways that is a job well done and he should, in theory, be better for it. There were great moments early on with his flashy hands too. What's not to like?

But then there's that knock down and in truth, it perhaps shows he doesn't have control of bouts at all times like many of the very best do.

Where that leaves him against Kell Brook I don't know? Working for him is the fact Brook has not looked good at 147lbs in recent years. But one big dig on that Khan chin and things get hairy.

    Woodley v TillImage source, .

I know this is is a boxing live text but while we're talking rings, let's talk octagons briefly as for some of you out there (I know that's not everyone), both sports are enjoyable to watch.

BBC Radio 5 live will have live commentary of Gennady Golovkin v Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez from Las Vegas next weekend at around 04:30 BST on Sunday morning. We will also be live-texting that bout.

But tonight there's live MMA action from UFC 228 where Darren Till is in action against Tyron Woodley. Britain could have only its second world champion in the UFC. You can listen to it live from around 04:00 BST on BBC Radio 5 live and again, we will be live-texting it.

Now. No more octagons from here on in, rings only.

  7. Thoughts?published at 23:32 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Khan beats Vargas

So what are your thoughts on that? Amir Khan wins again but my oh my, some of those old vulnerabilities are still there.

He looked comfortable when he made things a bit more drab as the fight went on but our Amir likes to get into a tussle on times and it doesn't half make things a bit rocky does it?

"Manny Pacquiao is an amazing name in boxing. Who wants to see the Pacquiao fight? Who wants the Brook fight?

"147lbs is my division. I will take some time off, speak with Eddie Hearn and go from there. I want to fight again before the end of the year. I needed this kind of fight badly and I needed those 12 rounds."

Amir Khan pings in a few cross shots up close and you can hear him yelping as he gets them off.

Just 45 seconds remain, a jab from Khan to keep his man at distance and then another.

Down to 30 seconds and Khan is jumping left and right repeatedly so his man cannot plant his feet and unload. Into the final 10 seconds.... the bell goes... the roar and both men raise their hands.
