    Khan v Vargas

So what's the drill with Amir Khan potentially facing Kell Brook? They clearly have beef, fans have wanted it for years and crucially, they now have the same promoter.

    Over to Mr Eddie Hearn.

"I understand Khan," said Hearn. "He says his best weight is 147lbs and is basically saying if you want to fight me at this weight then fine but if not I will fight someone else.

"That's fine but Kell would need to start training now because of the weight loss and he may need a 16-week camp.

"This Vargas test is the last hurdle before Khan is back into the super fights really. When Vargas fought Errol Spence, he had three weeks to prepare.

"He's had 10 weeks here and so I want Amir to have rounds, test those hands out and test what he's learning with Joe Goossen.

"Amir Khan unified the light-welterweight division and I think has a lot left.

"When you start achieving in British sport, it's sometimes like the public rebel a bit. Khan gets a lot of stick but how many fighters would like to have the resume of Amir Khan?"

Oh hello. Kell Brook is at Arena Birmingham.

Could we see an Amir Khan win followed by an announcement that these two will finally get it on?

More on that contest from promoter Eddie Hearn next...

British middleweight champion Jason Welborn: "I eased off a little bit again. I've done the training and am getting the experience of these 12 rounds. I had the best Tommy Langford and I'm glad now to move on. This means a lot to me and my family. I've taken a long time to get here and I'm going all the way now.

"We brought the best out of one another tonight. A lot wouldn't have got up from those shots. It was hurting my hand hitting him. We can both rest and forget about it now."

Tommy Langford: "The 10-8 rounds cost me. I'm absolutely devastated. All I can do is commend him. We have had two absolutely fantastic fights. This was a belter. There's a lot of fight in me and I'll fight anybody and come again. Fair play to him."

  11. Final-round scrap...published at 21:24 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Welborn v Langford

    Langford v WelbornImage source, PA

Tommy Langford rolls to the floor but it's ruled a push. Both men sag into one another up close as the lactic acid consumes them. A left hand catches Langford on his way into an attack. He comes back for more and whips an uppercut through the guard. This is back and forth, brutal stuff, neither man prepared to give it up.

What guts, what heart, what stamina. A left hook from Langford doesn't hurt his man, they grapple and the bell sounds as both men raise their hands with the referee breaking into applause.

That my friends, was full throttle. To the cards....

  12. 12th round shootoutpublished at 21:21 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Welborn v Langford

If you're just tuning in, we've got Amir Khan coming up in around 30 minutes or so but there's currently a superb domestic contest going on between Tommy Langford and Jason Welborn - both men from the Midlands.

The British middleweight title on the line in what is a rematch. We go into the 12th round and somehow Langford has made it this far and staged a hell of a comeback after being put down twice.

They come out swinging in the 12th and Langford's legs look a tad wobbly...

  14. Bellew's watching...published at 21:14 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Welborn v Langford

    Welborn v LangfordImage source, PA

BBC Sport columnist and top cruiserweight Tony Bellew is watching this domestic tussle between Tommy Langford and Jason Welborn for the British middleweight title

He tweets: "If Welborn loses this he will only have himself to blame! You don’t drop a guy twice have him cut and allow him to come back into a fight. Langford finally shutting up shop up close and using his reach FINALLY!

"Welborn may start thinking what does he have to do here! Boxing is a very easy sport to figure out! Do what was working before. Punching at the same time as Langford is what was working for Welborn before! Why stop doing it?

"Going to need 2 out of these last 3 I think Langford. He doesn’t seem strong enough to hurt Welborn by the look of this. I think another knockdown would secure the win for Welborn also. Really good fight though."

They go into round 10 of 12 and despite being dropped twice, Tommy Langford is threatening to avenge his defeat in May.

    Khan v Vargas

So let's be honest, summer is done, you've had your two weeks in Benidorm and now you need something to keep you going. Christmas is too far away to satisfy you, so can boxing help? In a word, yes.

Tonight really marks the start of a manic run of action. The traditional 'season' of boxing starts at this time of year and this time around, you've got Anthony Joshua, George Groves, Carl Frampton and Tyson Fury all set for big, big fights.

Here's a full preview of what's to come.

  16. In the ring now...published at 21:09 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Khan v Vargas

Amir Khan is getting his hands wrapped as we speak, he should be making his ring walk in around 45 minutes or so.

Right now we have a proper dust up going down for the British middleweight title. It's a rematch between Tommy Langford - who lost his title last time - against Jason Welborn.

Welborn has had his man on the deck a couple of times but with four rounds to go, Lanford is staging a solid comeback with his rival showing signs of running out of gas.

Kudos to referee Mark Lyson, who took his responsibility to new levels by straddling Langford after one of the knock downs...

    Khan v Vargas

So Saturday night and your eyes are on Arena Birmingham, good for you.

Amir Khan taking on an experienced Colombian-born man who probably knows defeat here will leave him with little hope of reaching the pinnacle.

Samuel Vargas has shared the ring with a couple of hot names so if we get the 39-second walkover Khan enjoyed last time I'd be stunned.

This live text is going to bring you every blow, it'll bring you stats and of course, we want your views on #bbcboxing.

For now, let's just leave this with you - the face Khan pulled when he lost his boxer shorts in order to make 147lbs yesterday. I hope you're in better spirits at home.

  18. The latest Khan installment...published at 20:45 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Khan v Vargas

    Amir KhanImage source, Reuters

He's been to the jungle, ate the strawberries when he shouldn't have and then returned to the ring to demolish Phil Lo Greco in April.

Would you have had these kind of events on Amir Khan's list when he returned from the 2004 Olympics with that silver medal? No, me neither.

There is no time to be wasted if he wants to return to the very top of the sport. A world title is getting the Khan stare down and so on nights like this, there can be no slip ups.

    Welcome one and all.
