It looks as though Khan has decided to park himself at welterweight, which is still a red-hot poundage with any number of prospects.

I think the best fight out there for him is the Brook one but I sense - from talking to him about the weight at which it should take place - that he's playing hardball and will not move up from 147lbs at all.

  2. 'Top three of 2018'published at 22:12 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

Khan v Brook would be in my top three fights to be made this year.

There is no doubt Khan has rediscovered something. There's something in his eyes. He's not talking about facing champions like Terence Crawford or Errol Spence yet but with a win or two, he could have those fights.

Then there's the Manny Pacquiao fight, a fight he thought he had made a few years ago. There's some bad blood between them through sparring.

  3. 'Khan is old and damaged'published at 22:11 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

Now, boxers tend to be opportunistic before a fight and as we know, love nothing more than inserting doubt into the man in the other corner.

It's perhaps unsurprising then that Samuel Vargas chose to point to Amir Khan's failings of the past, notably the heavy knockout dished out by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in 2016.

"I know in my heart that he knows that if I touch him he will get hurt," said 29-year-old Vargas, who scaled 10st 6lbs on Friday.

"There is no doubt in my mind I will be victorious on Saturday night. "I don't care how I do it. I think he's an old man, over the hill and he's been damaged a lot."

  4. Who could hate Amir?published at 22:11 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Khan v Vargas

Amir Khan is bouncing to the ring to the Nas tune 'Hate Me Now'. Oh that features Puff Daddy just in case Diddy is reading this and kicks off if we leave him out.

"And now, coming to the ring, Amir 'King' Khan...."

Michael Buffer with the words, the crowds in Arena Birmingham with the mobile phone flashes.

For the second time in over two years, it's Amir Khan making his walk to the ring.

Man on the microphone Michael Buffer is under the spotlight and in customary fashion, demands the masses "get this party started".

Coming to the ring, Colombian-born, Toronto based, it's Samuel Vargas.

Sounds like it'll be some kind of rap tune to bring him in as a few boos rain down.

  8. Boxer loses boxerspublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Khan v Vargas

Promoter Eddie Hearn says Amir Khan's options focus around Manny Pacquiao and domestic rival Kell Brook, so there are some hefty pay days resting on this bout tonight. A slip up is not an option.

Khan almost slipped up when it came to weighing in on Friday as he only made the 147lbs limit when he removed his boxer shorts.

Hopefully all underwear remains in place tonight and we can see what Khan has in the locker as last time out his 39-second demolition of Phil Lo Greco taught us little.

  9. Khan out and back in...published at 22:06 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Khan v Vargas

Amir Khan has left his dressing room, it's a white robe and he taps his chest as the camera follows him. Oh, what's this, Khan goes back to his dressing room. It looks like organisers have got their timings a touch wrong.

  10. 'World title is my dream'published at 22:05 British Summer Time 8 September 2018

    Khan v Vargas

Amir Khan has tasted those big Las Vegas world-title nights, most recently when he was on the end of a brutal knockout by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in 2016.

The former unified world champion has had great nights in Sin City, notably wins over Marcos Maidana and Zab Judah. So there's little wonder he told BBC Sport that returning to world-title level is a "dream".

    Mwakinyo stops Eggington

The crowd at Birmingham Arena are audibly groaning as the replays are shown of that stoppage. Hassan Mwakinyo was pin-point as shot after shot landed against an opponent who dropped his hands almost in stunned disbelief. Hooks, straight shots, the full repertoire unloaded on Eggington's head just over a minute into the second round.

    Wow.

What an upset. Sam Eggington was eyeing bigger bouts but the former European champion has been upset by a man who took this bout at short notice. He was totally overwhelmed and the referee jumps in during the second round as the heavy punches flew at Eggington.
