  1. Goodbye!published at 00:20 British Summer Time 27 August 2023

Well, that was an interesting night.

It was certainly more competitive than most expected with Daniel Dubois holding his own and having some success in the opening seven rounds.

The controversial low blow in round five is undoubtedly going to be a talking point over the coming days and weeks - there was no rematch clause included in the contract but promoter Frank Warren believes the governing bodies will need to take a look and could potentially call for one.

So Oleksandr Usyk retains the WBA 'Super', WBO and IBF heavyweight titles and, if a rematch isn't called for, he could make history by facing WBC champion Tyson Fury in an undisputed match next time out.

    Thanks for joining us!

Former WBO light-middleweight champion Liam Smith on X, formerly known as Twitter: "It WAS low, whether his protector is high or not (which should have been pulled at the start of the fight if team Dubious felt it was high) it’s just below waistband. Yes, Usyk milked the time he was allowed but, no one can answer whether he stays down it the ref counts it."

    Usyk beats Dubois by knockout

Daniel Dubois leaves with a second defeat on his record but can hold his head high after that performance.

He's still only 25 and has plenty of time to come back and challenge for a world title.

On reflection he might feel that a lack of killer instinct proved costly after not going full steam ahead when Oleksandr Usyk came back after a time out for the controversial low blow.

Usyk looked sluggish and was possibly there for the taking but Dubois, after initially having some success, stepped back and allowed the champion to recover.

Chris: Usyk's shorts weren't even that high. Bulk of glove hits well below the belt line. Clearly a low punch and there were several more too.

WBA 'Super', WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk seemed pretty keen on a historic unification bout with WBC champion Tyson Fury.

Filip Hrgovic is the mandatory IBF challenger and Usyk sidestepped the question of facing the Croatian next.

He beat Chazz Witherspoon in round seven on debut in the division and needed the judges to claim victories over Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua.

Steve Bunce said on TNT Sports: "Usyk's had hard 12 round fights. He's never looked like he did in those few rounds there against Dubois. Did you see how high his hands were? They never left his ears. I thought he didn't do Dubois credit at the end when he said he had no power."

Daniel Dubois said on TNT Sports: "I didn't think that was a low blow, I thought it landed and that I've been cheated out of victory. I've been cheated out of it tonight. I'll come again."

Frank Warren said on TNT Sports: "It wasn't a low blow. I wish they could put it up on there now and we could all see it. They didn't take any points off him. I like Usyk, but that was a complete home decision. He was not fit to go on and they gave him a couple of minutes to recover. It should be straight and it should be above board. How long did he get to recover? The governing bodies will have to look at that and order a rematch. We will order appeal what's happened here. It's all about a legitimate punch that stopped him and he should have won Everyone wants to see the unification. If Daniel had got the result then it would have been easy to do. We will see now."
