  • All-Ireland hurling semi-final: Kilkenny 2-16 Clare 0-24 (Res)

  1. Clare fight back to beat Cats in semi-final thrillerpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 6 July

    Kilkenny 2-16 Clare 0-24

Clare produced a stunning second-half comeback to beat Kilkenny 0-24 to 2-16 and banish their All-Ireland semi-final demons.

Kilkenny had defeated Clare at the same stage in the previous two years but it proved to be third time lucky for the Bannermen.

It was hard to see this coming at half-time as Kilkenny had dominated and held a five-point lead at the break.

  2. TJ Reid 'the greatest of all-time'published at 17:01 British Summer Time 6 July

    FT: Kilkenny 2-16 Clare 0-24

    Paul Murphy
Four-time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny on BBC Sport NI

I have to put him as the greatest of all-time. What this man has done is remarkable over 18 years.

He has been peerless over the last 18 years.

  3. 'The big guns came good'published at 16:55 British Summer Time 6 July

    FT: Kilkenny 2-16 Clare 0-24

    Jamesie O'Connor
Two-time All-Ireland winner with Clare on BBC Sport NI

At half-time, it was very hard to envisage Clare turning it around because of how poor they had been, but they threw the shackles off and they deserved the win.

They stayed in the fight and the big guns came good at the end. Tony Kelly found a way to get involved, Shane O'Donnell was immense, David Reidy hit three points from play and Aidan McCarthy was immaculate from frees.

  4. 'Clare looked beaten after Ryan's goal'published at 16:48 British Summer Time 6 July

    FT: Kilkenny 2-16 Clare 0-24

    Austin Gleeson
Waterford forward on BBC Sport NI

To be honest, after Billy Ryan's goal put Kilkenny six points up, I did think that maybe the game had gone away from Clare.

But you have to give full credit to Clare because all of their big players stepped up after that.

  5. 'Kilkenny beaten by the better team'published at 16:46 British Summer Time 6 July

    FT: Kilkenny 2-16 Clare 0-24

    Paul Murphy
Four-time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny on BBC Sport NI

There is no fault on TJ Reid's shoulders. Looking back on the game, you have to give full credit to Clare, it didn't come down to any one individual player on either team. Clare's panel won it.

I suppose you could look at it and say Kilkenny should have been 10 points up at half-time, but you can put that down to Eibhear Quilligan's saves. If one of those shots hits the back of the net do Kilkenny go out the door here as winners?

You can look through it and find reasons why Kilkenny lost it, but simply, they were beaten by a better Clare team on the day.

  7. 'Clare dominated the second half'published at 16:40 British Summer Time 6 July

    FT: Kilkenny 2-16 Clare 0-24

    Neil McManus
Former Antrim star on BBC Sport NI

It was a totally dominant second half from Clare, they were incredible and kudos to them.

They went at the Kilkenny defence, made the ball work for them and got the shooter on the ball.

The bench made a huge contribution. This is a panel sport and Clare had the stronger bench - certainly the bench which made the stronger impact today.

  8. Banner stun Cats in Croke Park thrillerpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 6 July

    FT: Kilkenny 2-16 Clare 0-24

Kilkenny were in control but the Banner grew into the game and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

The slenderest of leads at the end but Clare weather the storm and seal a spot in the biggest game of all.

    Who will they face?

We'll find out tomorrow... It's over to you Limerick and Cork!

If you can match that, we're in for a treat.

  9. 'Clare deserved it'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 6 July

    FT: Kilkenny 2-16 Clare 0-24

    Jamesie O'Connor
Two-time All-Ireland winner with Clare on BBC Sport NI

I'm delighted for Brian Lohan and the players. They have worked so hard over the last three years without anything to show for it. I think they deserved it. If Limerick win tomorrow, Clare will be delighted to get the chance to deny them five in-a-row

Credit to Clare for staying in the fight and Lohan's changes turned the match in Clare's favour.

They're in the final on merit.

That was a sensational second-half performance from Brian Lohan's men.

They trailed by five at the break and were probably flattered by that margin, but really improved after the break. Even when stung by a second Kilkenny goal, they stuck at it, chipped away at the lead and found the reserves to see it out.

The Clare supporters are going bonkers in Croke Park now. They've been left heartbroken at this stage by Kilkenny in the previous two years, but this is their day and they will be back here in a fortnight for the final.

Kilkenny may have one last chance. They've a free about 40 yards out, but a goal is needed so this has to be dropped in.

TJ Reid wide from another free, one you would expect him to land as Clare menial in front. Three minutes of added time underway.

You can hear the Clare crowd on their feet. Rodgers is the man you want on the ball. We have a tie game - who could have saw that at half-time - and Clare are on top.

Make that a one-point game as McCarthy lands a free from out on the right. Kilkenny introduce Tom Phelan and now they need a spark.

Tony Kelly clips over his second and one of the Clare subs, Ian Galvin chips in as the gap is down to two. Aron Shanagher has also been introduced for the Banner. Eight minutes to go and momentum seems to have shifted.
