It was a beautiful day in Imola on Friday; a perfect setting to watch some Formula 1 action.

Oscar Piastri, leading the drivers' championship by 16 points, edged team-mate Lando Norris by 0.025 seconds in the more representative second hour of practice.

The Australian has won four of the six races so far this season but he doesn't feel like it'll be a McLaren walk in the park this weekend for himself and Briton Norris.

"There are a few others who will join us in the fight tomorrow so we have got to keep our heads down and find a bit more," said Piastri.

Good morning, folks. The old-school, narrow Imola circuit doesn't make overtaking easy - quite the opposite, in fact. So securing the best seat on the grid for the 63-lap Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in today's pole position shootout is paramount for the big hitters.

Yesterday's practice sessions were topped by McLaren - Oscar Piastri beating out team-mate Lando Norris on both occasions. Will this be a straight papaya fight in qualifying this afternoon?

Third practice gets under way at 11:30 BST.

Qualifying goes green at 15:00 BST.

We also got a glimpse of the new C6 compound yesterday. This is the softest of the trio of tyres for this weekend's event, with the C5 as the yellow medium and the C4 as the white hard.
