  1. Meehan: 'It could be a tight, interesting game'published at 15:47 British Summer Time 22 June

Former Galway player Michael Meehan speaking on GAAGO

'Galway will have a point to prove after letting it slip last weekend. Maybe they should be sitting with the feet up watching GAAGO right now.

'Monaghan got their first big win against Meath and they will be looking to back that up.

'Galway will want to get it done early and fast, but Monaghan will be hoping to ask some hard questions.

'It mightn't be a helter-skelter game, but it could be a tight, interesting game.'

  2. Team newspublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 22 June

Galway v Monaghan, Pearse Stadium, 16:00 BST

Galway are unchanged from the side which drew against Armagh six days ago.

The Tribesmen were in complete control with 15 minutes to go against the Orchard County and looked like they were on their way to a quarter-final, but somehow they left the result behind them. Padraic Joyce will be expecting a response from his charges today.

The big news from their team selection is that star forward Damien Comer is listed amongst the substitutes, having missed the last two games with a hamstring injury.

Will he be sprung from the bench if things aren't going Galway's way this afternoon?

It has been a tough year for Monaghan, with just two wins picked up from their 11 competitive games. However, when it was ‘win or die’ against Meath last week they came up with the goods.

They make three changes to the team who started that game, with legendary forward Conor McManus coming in alongside Andrew Woods and Barry McBennett – who played the role of super sub with 1-2 off the bench last week. Joel Wilson, Micheal McCarville and Ciaran McNulty drop out.

Many are writing Monaghan off today, but they have come out on tops against the odds time and again in recent years.

Have they got another special performance in them this afternoon?

    Galway: C Gleeson; J McGrath, S Fitzgerald, J Glynn; D McHugh, S Mulkerrin, L Silke; P Conroy, S Kelly; M Tierney, J Mahe, C Darcy; R Finnerty, S Walsh, C McDaid.

    Monaghan: R Beggan; R Wylie, K Lavelle, J Irwin; R McAnespie, R O'Toole, C McCarthy; G Mohan, B McBennett; S O’Hanlon, M Bannigan, M Hamill; A Woods, J McCarron, C McManus.

  5. All-Ireland minor Championship semi-finalpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 22 June

    Derry 1-13 Kerry 1-12 (Result)

Holders Derry edged out Kerry by a single point, 1-13 to 1-12, at Cusack Park, to secure their place in the All-Ireland minor football final.

After Kerry registered the first score of the game, goals at either end of the pitch left the score 1-1 to 0-1 after seven minutes.

Luke Grant teed up Dylan Rocks for the Oak Leafers' goal, then Eoin O'Flaherty replied with a flicked effort from close range after meeting a probing delivery from Seán Ó Cuinn.

  6. Knockout football finally arrivespublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 22 June

    All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarter-finals

So after the rather interminable process to remove just four teams during the so-called 'Super 16s', we've finally reached knockout football in the All-Ireland series.

If Jarlath Burns' hints to BBC Sport NI on Tuesday are anything to go by, the GAA is going to come up with another format overhaul for next year although nobody is quite sure precisely what that is going to involve. But one of the aims presumably will be ensure that you don't remain in with a shout for Sam Maguire Cup glory by losing three championship matches in a row.

Anyhow on to today. First up, we have Galway facing Monaghan at Salthill (16:00 BST) with the Tribesmen expected to put the struggling Farney men out of their championship misery on a day which could prove Conor McManus' final inter-county appearance.

This Monaghan team have been written off many times before so Galway will surely not underestimate Vinny Corey's squad but anything other than a home win at Pearse Stadium will be a huge surprise.

Tyrone received a big boost overnight for their contest with Roscommon at Omagh (17:00) when news came through that midfielder Conn Kilpatrick's two-match ban had been overturned.

The Red Hands' line-up will surely be rejigged to accommodate the Edendork man's unavailability and while Roscommon, despite their relegation from Division One, remain a decent side, Brian Dooher's men will be fancied to repeat the home victory that they managed in round one of this year's league in late January.

Today's concluding last-12 contest is the one that has got everybody talking as Derry aim to arrest their alarming recent slide by shocking a Mayo side that came within seconds of beating All-Ireland champions Dublin last weekend.

After beating the Dubs in late March to add the Allianz League Division One title to their back-to-back Ulster SFC triumphs, the Oak Leafers looked primed to challenge for All-Ireland success but they have been a pale shadow of their true selves since being ambushed by Jim McGuinness' Donegal at Celtic Park.

Stay with us for all the fun and games.
