If Lando Norris can get past Oscar Piastri quickly, I wouldn't rule him out of at least closing down the gap to Max Verstappen and putting on the pressure.
Oliver Bearman is the only lapped runner that needs to shift past the safety car and make his way to the back of the grid. The Haas man does so and now we wait for the restart.

This is going to be fascinating, Imola doesn't always produce the most exciting races, but this one has been enthralling from start to finish and it's nowhere near yet done.
The safety car is still guiding the field around Imola as the Mercedes gets picked up by the recovery truck. Lando Norris has fresher tyres than his team-mate Oscar Piastri, as do a mixture of drivers across the top 10. Nico Hulkenberg is in the points, Isack Hadjar is there with both Williams drivers.

If McLaren want to try and beat Max Verstappen in this race, the only way they are going to be able to do that is to say to Oscar Piastri to let Lando Norris go through.

What's going to be interesting with Oscar Piastri having track position over Lando Norris is we know there are not set team orders within McLaren.
They will be allowed to race but there is a championship at stake and there is no way Piastri wants to allow his team-mate to get through, unless the team want to come on and give some sort of instruction.
What do McLaren do now? Lando Norris has flagged title leader Oscar Piastri's hard tyres look a bit worn out now, so maybe he could challenge Max Verstappen instead? Hey, he's not asking to be let through, he's just making a suggestion...
Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes is still being rescued by the marshals.
The majority of the field are on the hard tyres but Max Verstappen at the front is on fresh, fresh, fresh rubber, while Oscar Piastri's are 18 laps old. Lando Norris in third also stopped for new rubber but Charles Leclerc behind the McLaren didn't.

Max Verstappen is still in really good shape but the gap he had, that really comfortable lead of nearly 20 seconds, has been eroded because of the decision by race control.
Kimi Antonelli walks away from his stricken Mercedes and gives a wave to the adoring fans. Oscar Piastri has stayed out but Alex Albon from fourth comes in to pit and is now fifth.
Max Verstappen leads, Piastri is second and Lando Norris is third and Charles Leclerc has made his way up to fourth, as the field continues to follow the safety car.
This is why teams get frustrated with the FIA and race officials. It's the same situation as Esteban Ocon, he stopped in the same place, on the same hill, on the same piece of grass. The first incident was a virtual safety car and this is a safety car. There will be lots of questions after the race.

What a strange decision because that was an almost identical scenario to what we saw earlier on with Esteban Ocon which was a virtual safety car, this is now a full safety car.

Max Verstappen takes full advantage of this safety car period and heads in for a cheap stop. Lando Norris also pays a visit but it's a slow one for the Briton. Norris heads back out and joins the track in third place, behind team-mate Oscar Piastri.
