Lewis Hamilton's last lap looked a little bit scrappy, not his best. He hasn't looked comfortable with the end of braking.

There's a long queue to get out of the pit lane - is the rain on the way? It could be, as McLaren confirm there is a patch of rain lurking.

Franco Colapinto gets cut up by the Racing Bulls trying to make his way out. "Oh, these guys," says the Alpine man.

Well done, Mercedes, as Kimi Antonelli was the first driver to exit. His time is a 1:16.386.

It's getting darker and if I look out to my left which is where Turn One is, the cars have their lights on, that's how dark it has got.

  6. Go! Go! Go!published at 15:27 British Summer Time 2 August

Oscar Piastri topped the opening part of qualifying from the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso. Hopefully the Spaniard has enough padding to help with his back injury.

Below Isack Hadjar in third, Lando Norris was fourth and Charles Leclerc was fifth. Zak Brown tells Sky Sports on the pit wall the McLarens were on used soft tyres.

It's still dry, so let's get Q2 going.

  7. 'Track exposes a cars weaknesses'published at 15:26 British Summer Time 2 August

    Andrew Benson
BBC F1 correspondent at the Hungaroring

This is a track that exposes a cars weaknesses because there are so many corners as a percentage of the lap time.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull have been struggling for balance all year and it's exactly the type of circuit that is going to expose that.

Yuki Tsunoda made it through to the top 10 shootout last week in Belgium but he's a faller at the first hurdle this weekend in Hungary. The Red Bull has been a handful and as the track ramped up at the end of that session, the car just couldn't pull Tsunoda over the line.

isack Hadjar is was third on the timesheets but he thought he was impeded by the Haas of Oliver Bearman, who is also through to Q2.

Just as we predicted with Yuki Tsunoda and the struggles with Red Bull, he's out of Q1 and a disaster from him.

Aston Martin are looking good this weekend, so have they taken a little bit of the cost going out earlier to avoid the huge amount of traffic they will inevitably reach at the end of this session?

  14. Piastri goes quickestpublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 2 August

Lance Stroll shoots to third place on the timesheets but his Aston Martin buddy Fernando Alonso is purple in the first and middle sector, ending his lap with a top time of 1:15.281.

Over at Haas, Esteban Ocon thinks he might have a screw in his right tyre. The Frenchman is P20 and racing to the line to try and get out.

Oscar Piastri beats Alonso's time to go top, with Isack Hadjar now slotting into third spot.

  15. 'Williams giving themselves best chance to go through'published at 15:16 British Summer Time 2 August

    Andrew Benson
BBC F1 correspondent at the Hungaroring

It's a track that has long corners and Williams are not good in long corners. I think they are probably going for three sets of tyres in this first session to give themselves the best chance to go through.

This compromises them for the rest of qualifying because you're running out of tyres very quickly but at least you're not in the back quarter of the grid if you do that.

This is going to come down to almost who crosses the line last, we could get that kind of situation.

Five minutes left on the clock and Carlos Sainz, who came out bright and early, is down in the dumps in the bottom five. His Williams team-mate Alex Albon is just on the bubble in P15, with the Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson in P14 and Max Verstappen's Red Bull in P13 also sweating.

  19. Russell goes P2published at 15:11 British Summer Time 2 August

The Mercedes of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli go second and third respectively but with every fast lap being clocked, the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda are falling down the order. Dutchman Verstappen is 13th on the timehseets and Tsunoda is in the drop zone in P17.

  20. 'Red Bulls more competitive when less grip is available'published at 15:10 British Summer Time 2 August

    Sam Bird
Formula E driver on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It looks like the Red Bulls are more competitive when there is slightly less grip available.

As the track evolves and gets better, it looks like they are tending to drop away.
