Verstappen quickest on softspublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 2 August
11:53 BST 2 August
Lance Stroll continues to clock better laps in the Aston Martin and he's back to second on the timesheets. Max Verstappen is out on the soft compound and the Dutchman goes to the top of the board with a 1:16.547.
However, the other big hitters have arrived on track, and soon Verstappen's marker is only good enough for third place...

Franco Colapinto improves on the softs to go above Lance Stroll and into second place. The Aston Martin driver is now third, as the Red Bull of Yuki Tsunoda goes quickest, on the medium tyre, with a 1:17.022. The Japanese driver has the fastest sector time in the opening part of the lap so far.

Will Max Verstappen be a threat for pole position this afternoon? I'm still going to put my pennies on the two Mclarens and Charles Leclerc as the top three in qualifying today.
Lance Stroll is on the medium compound for his first push lap and the Canadian jumps above Franco Colapinto's soft time to go top with a 1:17.540.
As we mentioned yesterday, Aston Martin were the only team to come away from Spa empty handed. The team have dropped to eighth in the constructors' championship on 36 points, just one point ahead of Haas in ninth.
'Expecting better things from Verstappen'published at 11:46 British Summer Time 2 August

On Friday it seemed like Max Verstappen was struggling for global grip as if they had literally turned down the circuit grip just for his car.
Red Bull will have made significant changes to Verstappen's car overnight to try something completely different and I'm expecting better things from him today.
Whenever he seems to have a difficult Friday, he comes out swinging on a Saturday and then produces something every single time in qualifying.
I'm still expecting him to be a threat of some sort come this afternoon.

Franco Colapinto has opted for a set of softs very early on in this session. The Alpine driver is on a push lap and clocks the opening time of third practice, which is a 1:18.006.
His team-mate Pierre Gasly follows him out on the same C5 rubber - the C4 is the medium and the C3 is the hard for this year's Hungarian Grand Prix - along with the Sauber of Nico Hulkenberg.
'Big, big struggle' for Hamiltonpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 2 August

Lewis Hamilton gave a thumbs up as he entered the paddock this morning but Friday's practice was a "big, big struggle" for the seven-time world champion.
The balance of the Ferrari is the main problem, Hamilton said, and even when the team changed the set-up for FP2, it was still "very inconsistent" from one corner to the next.
"You can't just say it's understeer, you can't just say it's oversteer, it's just far from being on rails and very out of balance," he said.
Tyre tempertaures could possibly be causing the issue, Hamilton added, so Saturday is a day of investigation for the Scuderia.

When we say 'Go! Go! Go!' on a Saturday practice, that usually means only a handful of drivers head out on track for a couple of exploratory laps. Ollie Bearman is chatting in the Haas garage, Lewis Hamilton is deep in conversation with actor Anthony Mackie over at Ferrari.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have put some heat through a set of hard tyres, while Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso have added a medium tyre to the mix also.

Last chance to iron out any kinks before qualifying. Third practice is green and the track temperature is 47C.

Tough day for Red Bullpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 2 August

Max Verstappen had to dump an unwanted guest from his cockpit yesterday while he was out on track in second practice. The offending item? A towel. The stewards investigated the incident but decided to take no further action.
"It was still in the car when I went out so instead of it maybe potentially getting in between my feet, which is the dangerous part," said Verstappen. "I drove off line and got rid of it in the safest way possible. I think the stewards understand that."
As for Red Bull's performance yesterday, the four-time world champion said "nothing really worked". Verstappen finished 14th on the timehseets while his team-mate Yuki Tsunoda ended his second hour in ninth. But both drivers highlighted the same issues throughout the hour.
"Today was very tough. Just really a low-grip feeling and not really a balance in the car," added Verstappen.

'No pain' in FP2 for injured Alonsopublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 2 August

Fernando Alonso has been on the treatment table after the Belgian Grand Prix.
The 44-year-old Spaniard missed yesterday's opening hour of track running because of a back injury, with reserve driver Felipe Drugovich stepping in to replace him at Aston Martin.
Alonso was back in the car for second practice, ending the session in fifth place, one spot behind his team-mate Lance Stroll in fourth.
When asked about the pain, Alonso said: “It’s the same as yesterday. It’s going to be like this the whole weekend.
“I have a small injury on my muscle on the back in the lumbar area and I needed some rest, but the summer break is coming, so it’s another two days of managing the comfort in the seat.
“Yesterday, we found different solutions with pads and other things that are working fine, so today, I had no pain in FP2, so that is positive.”

Norris' advantage in the first session was 0.019 seconds and although the gap between himself and Oscar Piastri was bigger in the later hour - 0.291secs - neither driver had an ideal run. Norris had to abort his first flying lap after a mistake at Turn Two, while Piastri had heavy traffic on his fastest.
Norris then had a narrow escape at the final corner when he got his outside front wheel on the grass turning in, and ran wide into the run-off area.
Piastri said: "The performance has been very good. Some things to tidy up. It wasn't the smoothest of P2s but excited for the rest of the weekend."

Lando Norris was quickest in both practice sessions at the Hungaroring yesterday, leading the timesheets from McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
Norris, who is 16 points behind Piastri in the drivers' championship after the Australian took victory in Belgium last weekend, thought the car felt "pretty good" from the first laps.
"The second session was a bit more messy, just a few more mistakes, but that's all part of practice and trying to find the limit in different areas," he said.
"I know what I want from the car but it might be a bit harder trying to get it."

Hello, folks. Who is up to the challenge of putting their car on pole position this afternoon? If Friday's practice sessions were a glimpse into the future, the fight for the front row will be an all-McLaren showdown, with Charles Leclerc's Ferrari completing the post-qualifying interview trio.
Third practice gets under way at 11:30 BST.
The temperatures are warm in Budapest today and the window for qualifying, which starts at 3pm UK time (4pm local) is dry with some cloud.
