    The Red Bull driver put down a statement time to beat Charles Leclerc and team-mate Max Verstappen but now Australian Piastri has beaten Perez's marker by 0.640 seconds with a time in the 1:42s.

    Max Verstappen has Charles Leclerc in his sights but the three-time world champion falls short of knocking the Italian Grand Prix winner of his perch.

    Sergio Perez, on the hand, can sore the top of the board. The Mexican leaps above the Ferrari man with a 1:43.389 on his latest soft attempt.

    We are seeing a lot of improvements, the track is getting quicker and quicker, I think we are going to go right down to the chequered flag here to effectively see the best times.

    Lando Norris had a short stay at the top of the timesheets but with the track so busy after two stoppages, other drivers are benefiting from a tasty slipstream.

    Norris is no down to fourth as Carlos Sainz, the Williams of Alex Albon and the second Ferrari of Charles Leclerc all post better times.

    Leclerc leads the field with a 1:43.455 on the soft rubber.

    One of the difficulties of this circuit is the speeds around this track, it's a very fast circuit, if you do come up against traffic in a very narrow section you can still be at very high speed, so there is potential risk here around this circuit.

  8. This is a tricky one for Haas now. The likes of Charles Leclerc and Franco Colapinto got there mistakes out of the way in yesterday's opening hour of practice. Ollie Bearman's shunt has come right before the crucial qualifying session.

    So, Ollie Bearman was heading to Turn One at a quick pace and tried to bail out of the corner down the escape road. However, it was too late and smack - the Haas hit the barrier.

    Oh dear, Ollie Bearman has made contact with the barrier down in Turn One, he will be frustrated. He slaps the top of the car as he gets out, he's fine but he's cross with himself.

    Franco Colapinto is getting his first taste of the twisty nature of this Baku street circuit and after his crash on first practice yesterday, a clean session and quick time will be a major confidence boost.

  15. Albon goes quickest on softs

    Following a slow start to the session and a red flag for the Alpine of Esteban Ocon, we finally have some times on the board. Oscar Piastri did go top briefly but the McLaren slides down the order as the two Ferraris and both Red Bulls beat his opening marker.

    Williams have also bolted on the soft compound and watch on as Franco Colapinto goes second and Alex Albon leapfrogs everyone to go quickest with a 1:44.371.

  16. 'Everyone on the soft tyre'

    Everyone out on circuit is on the soft tyre, so that's now working towards dialling the car in for qualifying.

    The race tomorrow we would expect the hard tyre to be the preferred tyre because it's generally a one-stop race.

    This now is all about getting the car focused on this afternoon.

    We haven't had a wet race in Baku in the past, it's interesting that it's damp which is defining the fact that not many cars are bothering to go out.

  19. Oscar Piastri is the latest driver to become weather forecaster, telling McLaren there are some light spots of rain. His engineer then reassures the Australian the drops haven't affected the track too much.

  20. The first cars in the queue are Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri and as soon as the light turns green, the two McLaren drivers dive out on a set of soft tyres.
