  3. 'We had not become a bad team overnight'published at 20:43 British Summer Time 15 June

    Derry 2-7 Westmeath 0-9 FT

Man of the Match Ciaran McFaul speaking to GAAGO:

“It’s relief to get over the line. We knew it would be a grind, Westmeath had put it up to Armagh and Galway.

But we knew we had beaten Dublin in Croke Park and had not become a bad team overnight.

We are meeting every day so there’s no time to listen to anybody outside the group. Everyone is best friends in the group.

There were stories going about left, right and centre but the players know the truth and we are still in the hat.

It’s a win after three losses on the bounce and it’s about getting that winning feeling again because we got used to winning during the League.”

    Derry 1-7 Westmeath 0-7

Westmeath have just 'scored' a point via Robbie Forde that looked well wide of the near post.

Certainly that did not look like a score.

  10. Postpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 15 June

    Derry 1-7 Westmeath 0-6

Ah that's class by Conor Glass.

Some welcome quality there from the Glen man, runs a nice line and accepts the pass, takes a quick look at the posts and dissects them from distance.

Derry are jittery but they really should be able to see this one out from here.

    Derry 1-6 Westmeath 0-6

It wasn't convincing, but Shane McGuigan converts a free after a very harsh foul called on Westmeath for a good shoulder challenge on Emmet Bradley.

The game might have the jeopardy that people have been clamouring for after so many round robin games, but this is a hard watch.

Conor McCluskey scores a welcome goal for Derry!

That was more like the slick Derry attack that we saw during their successful Division One league campaign. McCluskey was making those runs for fun earlier in the year and his thunderous shot gives Derry their first goal in this year's Championship.
