What's interesting is they are not sweeping the pit-straight, why not? If they are not doing that then why is there a safety car out?

We don't know what has happened here but the debris, the mirror was in the middle of the straight and when it got hit by that Sauber the debris spread towards the pit-wall and towards the racing line.

All the tyres that have punctures are the front left and that's the same tyre that was the problem last year, it's the fast right-handers that caused the problems.

I don't know whether it's the debris or the kerbs.

Fernando Alonso pits again for mediums and he is almost wheel-to-wheel with Kevin Magnussen going down the pit lane. Alonso then squeezes ahead to come back out onto the track in front.

Pitting just before the safety car cost Oscar Piastri as he is down to fourth after those stops with the top three: Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc.

It's been such a busy pit-lane, the cars are now weaving out on track and filtering out of the pit-lane.

Carlos Sainz also took some damage as well, presumably from the same debris that caused Lewis Hamilton's puncture.

George Russell pits again, as does Fernando Alonso, but Russell comes out ahead of him and also Sainz.

Lewis Hamilton bemoans his luck as he is down in 16th.

The safety car prompts a flurry of stops with Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc among those going in.

I think it's the debris [that is causing the punctures].

Oscar Piastri pits just before a safety car is deployed.

That feels like it should have come out a couple of laps ago.

Max Verstappen is trying his best to suggest that Lando Norris didn't lift [under the yellow flags] and just think about that, he's doing it all while 200mph plus around a very complex circuit.

  16. Puncture for Hamiltonpublished at Lap 35/57

Oh maybe there are big issues! The debris from that destroyed wing mirror appears to have caused a puncture for Lewis Hamilton!

You do kind of feel leaving a wing mirror out there it was a matter of time before someone went over it, and lo and behold someone has! Valtteri Bottas but, fortunately, no big issues.

Nico Hulkenberg pits, moving off hards and on to a set of mediums.

Out in front the gap between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris remains around 1.8s.

It looks like somebody has lost their mirror going down the main straight, it's quite a large bit of debris. I wouldn't be surprised if a virtual safety car is called here because if that gets hit by a car that could be quite a dangerous thing.

Ferrari got ready for a pit stop there, perhaps anticipating a safety car, but normal race conditions are continuing for now so they pack up and head back in to the garage for now.
