Former Arsenal player Anita Asante says overturning a three-goal deficit against Barcelona is "one step too far" for Chelsea.

Sonia Bompastor's side trail 4-1 heading into the second leg of their Women's Champions League semi-final, with two goals in the final 10 minutes leaving their hopes of securing a first European crown hanging by a thread.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, they're no strangers to suffering heartache at the hands of Barcelona.

The defending champions have knocked them out of the competition in the semi-finals in each of the past two seasons as well as beating the Blues 4-0 in the final back in 2021.

And the last time they met at Stamford Bridge? It was exactly one year ago today and Barcelona won 2-0 to seal a 2-1 aggregate win.

Sonia Bompastor's programme notes call on her players to leave everything out on the pitch and have "no regrets" - while underlining the importance the role the fans can play today.

She mentions the WSL title race - Chelsea need four points from three games to be crowned champions - but adds: "Today, the only thing we are focusing on is Barcelona and trying to make it through to the Champions League final.

"We will do everything we can to make that happen."

It will be a tough mountain to climb for Chelsea. They will need to keep a clean sheet against a Barcelona team that has compiled around 40 goals on aggregate this season alone in the Champions League alone - it is quite a tall order.

A lot of the Chelsea players will admit that they didn't quite match the intensity levels of Barcelona and their quality on the ball. I do think there is the quality in the side, but perhaps it's a little too far gone. It will be interesting to see if they have learnt from a relatively naive approach in the first leg.

Chelsea have done phenomenally well in the WSL, but that Champions League trophy is still elusive. We'd love to see an English club bring it back, but It just looks like there is quite a gap on the European front at the moment.

In come Niamh Charles, Naomi Girma and Sjoeke Nusken.

Nathalie Bjorn is not involved while Wieke Kaptein and Aggie Beever-Jones drop to the bench.

Barcelona have made two changes to the side that started the first leg.

Clàudia Pina, who has nine Champions League goals this season, starts along with Fridolina Rolfo.

Esmee Brugts and Salma Paralluelo drop to the bench.

Barcelona XI: Cata Coll, Rolfo, Leon, Paredes, Batlle, Putellas (c), Guijarro, Bonmati, Pina, Pajor, Graham Hansen.

Chelsea lost 4-1 in the first leg in Spain to leave their quadruple hopes hanging by a thread.

Ewa Pajor gave Barcelona a first-half lead before substitute Claudia Pina doubled their advantage midway through the second period.

Sandy Baltimore pulled a goal back for Chelsea but late goals from Irene Paredes and Pina consigned the visitors to a heavy defeat.

All the pressure is on Chelsea to turn this around and Barcelona's players looked relaxed when they walked out around 12:30 BST to get a feel of the pitch.

One player spent about five minutes taking selfies with Chelsea fans.

There's a pocket of Barcelona supporters who have travelled over from Catalonia who have been singing and waving flags.

Next stop for them is Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon and the final on 24 May unless...
