Summary

  1. Final whistlepublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 18 May

Not the opening day of the All-Ireland SFC that Derry, Monaghan and Cavan were hoping for as they went down to away defeats.

There was also disappointment for Antrim's hurlers after losing out to Galway in the Leinster SHC game at Corrigan Park.

But there was good new in the Tailteann Cup with Antrim, Fermanagh and Down chalking up victories in round two.

That's all from us for now as a busy day of GAA action comes to an end.

We're back tomorrow for live coverage of the Ulster Ladies Football final between Donegal and Armagh.

    See you then.

  5. 'We're delighted'published at 19:26 British Summer Time 18 May

    FT: Galway 2-14 Derry 0-15

Galway's Paul Conroy speaking on GAAGO:

It was good, tough going because Derry are a serious outfit.

I think we played well, it maybe took us a while to get going in the first half but we got some good scores. It's great, I look forward to two weeks time.

It can be hard at times and they [Derry] drop back a lot as well so I don't know if it had a massive difference [the red card]. I think they were able to play well with 14 men and this heat and stuff is a big factor, but we're delighted and will now build for Westmeath in two weeks time.

The goals Galway got were the key difference.

Derry credit to them, tried to come out and push for the win in that regard.

But, that was a huge performance from Galway, a huge win from Galway and a huge opportunity for them to push on.

  9. Full-timepublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 18 May

    Galway 2-14 Derry 0-15

A deserving win for for Galway who took full advantage of their extra man.

Derry will be frustrated as they worked so hard to bring themselves back into contention before the sucker punch of the second goal.

They now have two-weeks to lift themselves ahead of the visit of Armagh to Celtic Park.

Galway were full value for their win, but an injury to Damien Comer the only black spot for Padraig Joyce's side.

    Galway 2-13 Derry 0-13

    Michael Murphy

    Huge score!

Absolutely brilliant. Brilliant composure there to flick it across but what legs from Cian Darcy to get up that pitch, right up through the middle.

Shane Walsh released him over the top in a fascinating battle of play. Turned over, quick play from Galway and up that end of the pitch for a fantastic score.

    That surely clinches it.

  15. goal

Goalpublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 18 May

Galway break and with Derry committing to attack, Cein Darcy finishes to the Derry net after being teed up by Shane Walsh.

That all but confirms the win for Galway.
