    Frida Maanum

    Arsenal break the deadlock!

CJ Bott was excellent in defence during the first half, but a misplaced back pass falls from the New Zealand defender to Alessia Russo, who draws Lize Kop out of her goal before she chips it out to Frida Manuum.

It's an empty net and she's not missing from there.

    West Ham 0-1 Liverpool

Olivia Smith has made as energetic a start to this second half as she did the first.

She draws a corner for Liverpool with a run in behind and looks to add to her tally from the resulting rebound, but can only lift her shot high of the target.

A frantic start to the half.

Liverpool attack down the right but Marie Hobinger's control on the edge of the box is loose and the ball is nicked off her toes.

Katrina Gorry tries to set Riko Ueki in behind on the counter but a foul stops the play in its tracks.

    Good football from Liverpool.

Taylor Hinds and Ceri Holland exchange passes before Holland takes aim from distance. Her effort curls just wide of the far bottom corner.

    FT: Man City 1-0 Brighton

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor speaking to BBC Two after his side's 1-0 win against Brighton earlier today: “Performance wise, without the ball I thought we were excellent. Brighton are a very well-coached team, you can see Dario has brought in new ideas and I think they're gonna surprise a few teams this season with the way they play, they can cause a lot of problems. We nullified that really well with our press, in possession stuff was okay but we had a lot of chances, many chances to score a second and I felt if we got that we probably could have opened up and maybe got three or four.

"The good thing, what I really enjoyed today was having to defend the lead and when you think about what we've done so far this season, four points taken, we didn't take any of those last season - nothing off of Arsenal and we lost this game home, we are already four points up on that which is pleasing.

"Certainly some little bits of finishing to work on but really pleased for the team because we worked tremendously hard today."

On the rustiness in front of goal: “Well, you work on it in training and hope it clicks in games. Opportunities today, we probably won’t get many more to really open up and they came from pressing, winning the ball back, gaining opportunities but just the final action let us down.

"I have to say in the three games previous we've scored five, two and three so we've been there and sometimes you can get that if it needs to be 1-0 I’m happy.”

    Everton 0-1 Man Utd

It's all over on Merseyside and Grace Clinton's fourth-minute strike takes Manchester United to six points out of a possible six. It wasn't the prettiest of performances but the win is all that matters.

Despite a much-improved performance, Everton remain without a point in their opening two WSL matches.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:57 British Summer Time 29 September 2024

    Everton 0-1 Man Utd

Manchester United should really be out of sight by now. With Everton pushing forward in search of an equaliser, gaps are left at the back and Melvine Malard is left in acres of space with the goal at her mercy.

She hesitates but manages to get her shot off but Courtney Brosnan saves well.

    HT: West Ham 0-1 Liverpool

There's a big team talk on the way for West Ham boss Rehanne Skinner.

Liverpool have avoided defeat in their last 7 matches when scoring first, while the Hammers have failed to win any of their last 8 WSL matches when conceding first.

Aston Villa v Tottenham (16:30 BST)

Aston Villa boss Robert de Pauw has made one change to his team from the side that lost 1-0 to defending champions Chelsea on the opening weekend.

Scottish forward Kirsty Hanson comes into the starting line-up, with Lucy Staniforth returning to the bench.

That change is set to see Missy-Bo Kearns drop into a deeper midfield role alongside the experienced Jordan Nobbs.

Aston Villa: D'Angelo; Maritz, Patten, Parker, Tomas; Nobbs, Kearns; Grant, Hanson, Dali; Daly

Subs: Poor, Robinson, Salmon, Leon, Staniforth, Mayling, Taylor, Turner, Pacheco

Tottenham manager Robert Vilahamn has named an unchanged starting side from the team that beat Crystal Palace 4-0 a week ago.

Hayley Raso, Jess Naz and Drew Spence, who all scored against Palace, are among those to keep their places.

The only change from that matchday squad comes on the bench, with Ella Morris replacing Luana Buhler.

Tottenham: Spencer; Neville, Bartrip, Hunt, Nilden; Oroz, Summanen; Raso, Spence, Naz; Thomas

Subs: Talbert, Grant, England, Csiki, Ahtinen, Gunning-Williams, Vinberg, Morris, Dennis

What a piece of defending that is from Justine Vanhaevermaet to keep Everton in touching distance.

There's a terrible mix-up for Everton and Hinata Miyazawa strikes towards an open goal but Vanhaevermaet brilliantly positions herself to head clear.

    West Ham 0-1 Liverpool

The visitors take a narrow lead into the break thanks to Olivia Smith's first Liverpool goal.

There have been shoots of promise for hosts West Ham to build on however, if they can just find that crucial piece of quality in the final third.

    Leicester 0-0 Arsenal

Missy Goodwin has been a bright spark for Leicester in the opening 45 minutes and it's her blocked shot that is the final bit of action as the referee signals half-time.

Arsenal are going to need something special to break through this solid Foxes defence.

Superb pressing from Riko Ueki sees Rachel Laws on the run, but thankfully for the visitors the keeper's clearance hits off the forward and rolls behind for a goal kick.

Manchester United have a free kick in a shooting position and it's Dominique Janssen who pulls rank over Grace Clinton.

Her effort isn't the worst you'll see but it doesn't trouble Courtney Brosnan.
