Australia had looked like running away with this but a penalty corner goal from Rupinder Singh stopped their momentum just a bit.

We're still a long way off an upset, however. Australia recently beat the Netherlands 6-1 in The Hague to win the World Cup - which is the hockey version of beating Brazil 7-1 at football in Rio.

England and Australia are having a real ding-dong at the top of the medal table. The boys and girls from Down Under are leading the way and grab another gold at the expense of their nearest rivals.

England's Aaron Heading fails to defend his Commonwealth Games men's trap title after losing in the final to Australia's Adam Vella at the Barry Budden Shooting Centre.

India's Manavjit Sandhu claimed bronze in a sudden-death shoot off with Australia's Michael Diamond.

"Big boys giving it bunches in the boxing ring is all very well but the best story of the day will come at 1530 BST, when Kiribati lightweight Taoriba Biniati will fight a woman for the first time ever. There will be a feature about her on the BBC Sport website not long after she boxes."

Exciting stuff at the head of the race with three laps gone as it's now a four-horse race.

Previous leader Max Plaxton of Canada is one of them but no longer leads with Australian Daniel McConnell getting his nose in front.

Kiwis Anton Cooper and Samuel Graze are still in there fighting. The Scottish crowd are stretching their vocal chords to cheer on Grant Ferguson, who is seventh.

England's John Lane, third in the 2014 Commonwealth rankings, is having a problem with this dastardly height though. He fails at first attempt, cruises over at the second attempt, before Australia's Stephen Cain tickles the bar with his chest and that follows him down to the mat.

Canada's Damian Warner - third at last year's World Championships - is still leading the event, although these three are narrowing the gap as they battle for the podium.

All quiet at Hampden Park - which makes a change for the place which is known for housing thousands of screeching football fans. No sign of the 'Hampden Roar' at the moment with only the men's decathlon in action. Welshman Ben Gregory looks a confident dude, and backs up his pre-jump glare into the camera by clearing 4.90m.

    Barry McGuigan
BBC Sport boxing expert, on Radio 5 live

"A brilliant, tough and entertaining few rounds of boxing between Scotland's Ross Henderson and England's Joseph Joyce. The lighter boxers might struggle to get some real power behind them with the extra padding in the gloves, but these super heavyweights get some purchase.

"Henderson, who gave it absolutely everything, kept coming back for more even though he was on the end of some serious blows from Joyce. A technical knockout from Joyce did it in end and, although you can never tell in his weight division, Joyce looks good value to go all the way."

Well, that wasn't one for the faint-hearted. The home nations showdown between Scotland's Ross Henderson and England's Joseph Joyce was like a scene from Land of the Giants. These two are seriously big fellas.

Henderson hits the canvas three times in the opening two rounds, but like a real-life version of Rocky Balboa keeps coming back for more. The Scot has a giant heart but a fourth felling is too much for the referee - it's all over.

Easy win for Joyce in a very one-sided fight.

World champions Australia made a slow start and were under pressure from some swift India attacking play, but given a chance from a penalty corner, the ruthless Aussies take advantage through Chris Ciriello's low drag flick.

That seems to spark the tournament favourites to life and moments later they are two up thanks to a fine team move finished off by Simon Orchard. It's looking ominous for India already.
