15-year-old Aidan Heslop spends his summers diving off cliffs.

And he reckons that's helped him today in the outdoor diving arena here on the Gold Coast.

Wales' first Commonwealth diver in 20 years made it through to the final of the men's 3m springboard.

He's the youngest competitor in the field and described it as 'a massive personal achievement'.

    Women's 800m first round

Kenyan Margaret Nyairera Wambui powers down the home straight to take the second 800m heat. England's Shelayna Oskan-Clarke led for much of the final lap but ended up being run out of both first and second in the closing stages. Her time isn't going to be enough for a lucky loser spot.

Scotland’s 2014 medallist Lynsey Sharp and England’s Adelle Tracey are in the final heat. Top two automatically make the final remember.

    FT: Barbados 39-39 Scotland

Would you believe it? Scotland have scored in the last second of the game to force extra time.

The Barbados coach is screaming at her team at the break 'we got this!'

But it's Scotland with the momentum and the energy, as they celebrated that last-gasp equaliser like they had won the tournament.

We've got 14 minutes of extra time (seven minutes each way) coming up.

That was a personal best for England's Alexandra Bell. She is beaming as she walks from the track.

Over in the heptathlon, Katarina Johnson-Thompson is still yet to enter the high jump competition. She is the last athlete to do so. Northern Ireland's Katherine O'Connor and England's Niamh Emerson are both over 1.75m. O'Connor is chasing the Northern Ireland national record.

Alex Bell should be delighted. She wasn't even on the team to begin with for these Games.

Bell judged that really well and put herself in the right position in the final bend. She never gave up and never doubted herself and she has now got nothing to lose in the final.

Semenya wins, England's Bell secondpublished at 03:26 British Summer Time 12 April 2018

    Women's 800m first round

Caster Semenya hits the front early and there is absolutely no stopping her from there. The South African breezes through but in the race between the rest England's Alex Bell times her charge perfectly and takes second.

Bell hung in until the final 100m and then overtook two athletes within the last 40m. That's a fine, fine run. Alex Bell is in the final.

The final track event of this morning session is now under way. It is the 800m and features two-time Olympic champion Caster Semenya who is the clear favourite and has already won one gold in these games. England's Alexandra Bell is also in this first heat of three. The top two qualify automatically.

England pair Lois Toulson and Robyn Birch, and Scotland's Gemma McArthur are all in action over at the Optus Aquatic Centre.

There are only 12 entrants and so this preliminary round only matters in as much as the rankings will be used to determine the start order for the final.

    Each athlete gets five dives.

England Niamh Emerson enters the heptathlon high jump competition at 1.72m and the tall blonde-haired athlete comfortably clears the bar.

Australian 18-year-old Celeste Mucci, who impressively won the hurdles event earlier, has also gone over 1.72m and that sees her stay in the lead at the top of the standings. England's Katie Stainton then clears it too on her third attempt and looks absolutely delighted.

In the high jump the heptathletes are still jumping around the 1.69m mark. KJT's best is 1.98m so it still might be a while until we see her.

“That hurt!” 1m Commonwealth champion Jack Laugher tells me after his spectacular face-plant in the fifth round.

Fortunately the Englishman was so far clear of his opponents at that stage that he still eased through to the final later today.

“The conditions are really tough here because everything is Blue - the sky, the water - and then there’s the heat and the sun,” he says.

“It will be easier in the final when it’s nighttime and we have the flood lights and although I made that one mistake today I’m confident I can move things on tonight.

“It’s the one (title) that I really want, because I was devastated to miss out on it at Glasgow 2014.”

England's Zac Shaw has just qualified in second from his heat for the men's T12 100m first round. Hilton Langenhoven of South Africa comfortably wins the heat while Canada's George Quarcoo gets in a tangle with his guide and ends up falling face first on the track. That allows Wales' James Ledger to take third but he won't make the final from that position.

KJT has got to cope, she has to prove that she's head and shoulders ahead of the rest.

Katarina has to keep her composure and make sure she doesn't make mistakes.

She has to make this competition count and come away with a very good score.

Being favourite makes it slightly harder as she knows what is expected of her.

There looks to be a sleepy atmosphere at the Carrara Stadium as this heptathlon event continues. There's a sedate rendition of Sweet Caroline going around the ground with the spectators swaying calmly from side to side. It's a world away from a cricket match at Headingley for example.

England's Katie Stainton, who fell in the hurdles earlier, has just cleared 1.66m at the second attempt.
