The Gold Coast Bulletin is feeling chipper.

Under its ‘Yellow Brick Road’ headline, if states Australia’s successful swimmers have a similar success trajectory as the Gold Coast.

A report released today predicts added to what has already been ploughed in, the Games will deliver a total of around £18bn in investment over the next 10 years.

Remember, the Gold Coast got its name in the 1950s when Brisbane’s rich came to holiday here. National journalists nicknamed it the Gold Coast, which at the time was seen as an insult.

Eventually the nickname was adopted as the official title. Hopefully, with all this money set to flow in, they won’t confuse us all by naming it something else again.
