There was success for England at this afternoon's last 16 boxing sessions at the vast NEC complex.

Jodie Wilkinson, who would normally spend a Saturday working as a 999 call handler for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, beat Nigeria’s Bolanle Temitope Shogbamu by split decision (4-1) in the women’s light middleweight event.

The 27-year-old, who said she knew nothing about her Nigerian opponent before stepping into the ring today, will face Northern Ireland’s Eireann Nugent in the quarter-finals on Wednesday at 20:00 BST.

"I’m not happy but I got the win so I should be happy in some sense," said Wilkinson. "I only gave 30 or 40% of the real Jodie out there today.

"I always believe the hardest fight is the first fight in any competition, so I’ve got that out of the way and now I’m going for gold but there’s more of the real Jodie to witness in there."

A British record for England's Noorin Gulam as she completes a 73kg snatch in her final attempt.

Gulam won the British Weightlifting Championships in 2019 while studying for a degree at Bournemouth University.

The men's individual pursuit is held over 4,000mand each race features two riders, who start on opposite sides of the track.

The winner is the rider who either catches up with his opponent or records the fastest time. A rider is adjudged to have caught their opponent if the chainset on their respective bikes draw level.

This is TIGHT between Tanfield and Leahy at the halfway stage.

Who's going to win? Flip a coin at this stage. No idea.

With half a lap to go you could see Andrews could get on terms. She possibly lulled Capewell into leading out but the New Zealander was just able to come out of the bend with the extra speed.

Same drill for England's Sophie Capewell.

The 23-year-old lost the first race against New Zealand's Ellesse Andrews and must win this one to take it to a decider.

Capewell pushes her rival, who won gold in the team sprint yesterday, but finishes 0.022 seconds behind after a late burst from Andrews.

Fine, fine margins.

Lily Owsley can’t really believe her luck! Hard delivery from Anna Toman, there’s a couple little touches but Owsley is calm, takes her time, and pops it in. Great finish.

Olympic champion Kelsey Mitchell has the pedigree and she has the form at Birmingham 2022.

The Canadian looks in supreme control as she crosses the line ahead of Welsh teenager Emma Finucane.

Finucane, 19, busts a gut as she goes for the line but doesn't have the speed to get their first.

That's two wins from two for Mitchell and means she is through in the best-of-three contest.

Another England penalty corner is only just saved by Ghana keeper Bridget Azumah and pops straight up to Lily Owsley on the left post who volleys the rebound into an empty net.

How many more will England get? Around 20 minutes remain.

Scotland's Neah Evans has been talking to BBC Sport after winning bronze:

"The crowd was unreal. We had to change the tactics because normally I have my split shouted and it was like 'I'm not going to be able to hear you' and that just shows you how loud it all is. After about halfway it was just get your head down and keep going.

"I got the new British record this morning and I didn't quite back it up - such is racing - I'm delighted."

On the team pursuit rather than an individual:

"(Katie Archibald) won it last time and I was so sad when she had to pull out - I wanted to race her but I also didn't - it would have been good fun.

"We don't train it so it is quite nice in the Commonwealth Games because you get to focus slightly differently, but we've got the European Championships in 10 days so it is always in the back of your mind that I am going to have to go team pursuit fairly soon so as much as your training for this, it's still a secondary focus.

"So to come away with a medal coming off a few months of individual pursuit, I'm delighted."
