Imogen Allison is also in for Jade Clarke at wing defence.

    WOW - instant impact!

Well she had an unbelievable 15 minutes against New Zealand in the final group game and she is there again with the huge interception. Ellie Cardwell rewards under the post.

Ellie Cardwell has been exceptional all season - domestically and internationally.

The ball is in great hands - just like a newborn baby.

    Lisa Alexander

Australia right now are their own stars in their own movie.

So impressed with Steph Wood just shutting the noise out. The work they are doing to quiet this crowd is working.

    England 17-25 Australia

That's better from England, much better.

They are finally putting some pressure on this slick Aussie operation. The crowd are loving it. Pamela Cookey has just said in commentary that a five-goal difference keeps England in touch. Well, it's currently eight goals.

Still a long way to go, though.

It was all getting a bit green and gold in here.

  7. England win bronze in boxingpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Women's light flyweight semi-final

A brave Savannah Stubley was beaten by reigning world champion Zareen Nikhat on points.

Stubley comes away with a bronze medal, but was outclassed by India's Nikhat, who was the favourite coming into the Commonwealth Games.

Stubley still only 21, a huge learning experience for her in Birmingham.

Nikhat will fight Northern Ireland's Carly McNaul in the final.

    England 14-23 Australia

England are struggling here. It's very static, it's missing something. They are trailing this quarter 7-2.

I don't think we'll be waiting long before Ellie Cardwell is on this court.

'England playing like individuals at the moment'published at 14:59 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    England 13-20 Australia

    Lisa Alexander
    Former Australian netball coach

There are no time outs, England's experienced players need to talk and get connected. they are playing like individuals at the moment.

  10. netball

Postpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    England 13-17 Australia

England are spending a lot longer on the ball than Australia and really pushing the limit on the three second held ball rule.

It's not the speed and fluidity we have seen from the Roses in other games, for sure.

By contrast, Australia are pinging the ball straight to Gretel Bueta who is nailing the shots every time. She's missed one from 15 so far.

'England need to be more clinical'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    England 12-15 Australia

    Beth Cobden
Former England player on BBC Three

I think a fairly good start but it would be good if we could take some of those turnovers through to goals.

The Aussies have had a really strong start.

It is hard to win ball against them so we need to be really clinical in attack.

    England 12-15 Australia

Here we go - head coach Jess Thirlby is not messing around and she's making a change already.

Jade Clarke has moved out to wing defence and Laura Malcolm comes on at centre.

Not exactly the first quarter England fans were hoping for, but that hasn't stopped them screaming their heads off every time the Roses threaten to disrupt Australia's attack.

Very, very early days and England have got a great bench to fall back on. It's going to be fine everyone.

Australia hold slim lead after first quarterpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    England 12-15 Australia

Big pressure from England and Australia fling the ball straight out of court - England send it down court but Ash Brazill is there with the big interception. Wasteful from England.

Geva Mentor puts pressure on the shooters and the Diamonds can't get the shot away before the hooter.

The world number one side take a three goal into the second quarter.

Too easy back door centre pass and that is Australia's tactic - they want it down there fast.

England netball coach Jess Thirlby always has a headphone in on the sideline.

It's probably for communication reasons but I love the idea that she's got some sort of classical piano playlist on to keep a cool head in this feverish NEC atmosphere.

  17. netball

Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

Helen Housby and Jo Harten are shooting at 100% so far - seven for Harten and four for Housby.

But Australia look so clinical and they are firing the ball down the court much quicker than England.

  19. Northern Ireland into boxing finalpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Women's light flyweight semi-final

Carly McNaul has secured at least a silver medal after an excellent win over Uganda’s Teddy Nakimuli in the light flyweight semi-final.

A silver medal winner four years ago, McNaul was assured throughout and is the first Northern Ireland fighter to reach a boxing final today.

Nakimuli came to life in the final round in remarkably her first bout in Birmingham, but the contest was already won.

Postpublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    England 8-9 Australia

Gretel Bueta is the danger woman for Australia - she is just finding that space in the circle with ease and putting the shots up no problem.

Ohhh Natalie Metcalf - she wins it back in the middle of the court but can't convert it to a goal and it's Australia who still hold that slim lead.

Five minutes to go in the first quarter.
