Carlos Sainz is leading the field from pole with a four-second gap to his team-mate Charles Leclerc in second. Lando Norris is chasing down Max Verstappen, who has a gigantic 20-second penalty to serve at some point.

Gianpiero Lambiase has to pick up the phone again and tell Max Verstappen about his next penalty. The Dutchman sounds like he wants to go nuclear, but he keeps it cool and says "that's silly" instead.
If it were to end like this the gap between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris is would rise to 60 points between them so this is good news for Lando Norris' championship.
Red Bull have called Sergio Perez into the pits, as the Mexican seems to be carrying damage on the front of his car. It's been a bruising home race so far.
George Russell is informed about Max Verstappen's 20-second penalty. "Wow," replies the Mercedes driver.
Carlos Sainz is still in front with Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc in second and Verstappen third.
Interestingly if Verstappen got penalised for the Turn Four incident then that means the stewards have taken a completely different view, an actual opposite view of what they took in the Austin incident a week ago.
Sergio Perez also came under pressure from Lance Stroll during his earlier fight with Liam Lawson. The two were arguing over position and now the stewards are going to take a look.

The defence by Liam Lawson has riled Sergio Perez, an angry message coming in from shortly after.
Huge news from the stewards. Max Verstappen has been handed another 10-second penalty, this time for leaving the track and gaining an advantage for that second incident with Lando Norris.

Colin Sanderson: Max Verstappen just continues on his own merry way. At least, although one week late, he receives a 10 second penalty this time. It happened quite early in this race so there's plenty of opportunity for more. Entertaining stuff
The fans at the first corner are shouting, screaming for Sergio Perez to pass Liam Lawson. The Mexican can't make the move stick, and tries again a few corners later. New Zealander Lawson isn't making this easy, however, and the two are tussling with each other throughout the rest of the lap.

Ferrari are one-two in this race but Carlos Sainz is not amused by Charles Leclerc's racing. The Monegasque driver is 1.5 seconds behind and has just banked the fastest lap.
Oh no. Fernando Alonso has retired from the Mexico City Grand Prix. A miserable end to what has been a celebration of his 400th entry.

I agree with Lando that was too extreme, we are on the edge of our seats here but that was really really extreme. The drivers had a meeting about this exact thing, you can't just run another driver off the circuit like Max has done there twice.
