"Very good decision by the umpire. Scorewise Zimbabwe are going along nicely, but the more wickets you lose the harder a big chase is."

Three short of his 32nd ODI fifty Taylor has gone. He plays over the top of the ball with his attempted sweep but reviews the decision. Third umpire Richard Illingworth eventually decides it was a correct one.

  3. Zim 142-3 (Taylor 45, Williams 6)published at 04:00 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

Some deft sweeps being employed by the Zimbabweans now, orthodox ones this time, with Taylor collecting consecutive boundaries off Tauqir. Deft cannot be used to describe big Javed's attempt to cut the ball off on the boundary, Bambi on ice springing to mind as the ball trickles through his legs and he takes a tumble.

Taylor takes a step down the wicket to Aziz, who has his gold chain dangling outside his dark shirt, and it flies low past the bowler 80 metres into the distance, the 67th maximum of the tournament.

Taylor employs the reverse sweep again to excellent effect, sweetly timed to the boundary of Tauqir for his third four. The halfway stage of the innings and 160 required.

Another spell for spinner Nasir Aziz, resembling a Batman character with his white sun cream thickly coated around his neat goatee beard and dark glasses. There is a half-hearted appeal for lbw as Taylor sweeps but the fact that leg bye is not signalled when they take a run shows how much hope it had.

Now we are unlikely to see this again in this tournament, or for some time. Chakabva had been calmly moving towards fifty but in playing back to the spin of Tauqir he slips and his back foot dislodges the bails. "What happened next?" I can hear dear old David Coleman asking.

The Karate Kid continues - Chandran has Karate on the back of his shirt for those of you just joining us. He's listed as medium fast but the keeper being up to the stumps and his average speed being barely above 100k's would indicate otherwise. Taylor, one of only three Zimbabweans averaging over 30, picks up another boundary.

  9. Zim 104-2 (Chakabva 32, Taylor 20)published at 03:40 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

Thanks JJ. Well I'm disappointed with Hamilton Masakadza, I had all manner of stats on him for you. I've a good mind to use them anyway, completely irrelevantly. Well at the 20 over stage the UAE were 92-2 so it's all going well for Zim. Tauqir, with white sun cream smeared around his dark glasses, comes in off a few steps and Chakabva pulls through mid-wicket to collect his fourth boundary.

Another tidy over from UAE, who will be the happier side at the moment. Can Zimbabwe quicken the pace? My colleague Jamie Lillywhite will let you know as he talks you through to the conclusion...

The local Kiwi kids are loving their day out in the Nelson sunshine, one cheeky scamp holding up a sign which shows he cannot spell four simple words - but that he knows how to correctly write the word 'cricket'. Brilliant.

Meanwhile on the pitch, Zimbabwe add a boundary from Taylor and a cluster of singles. But they are being restrained by the UAE bowlers to decent effect.

A change of attack from UAE. On comes Krishna Chandran, who bowls slow medium. Tidy enough from Chandran as Zimbabwe add another three. The required run rate is ever-lengthening, creeping up to 6.21.

Zimbabwe's two batsmen exchange a confidence-boosting fist-bump after struggling to pick off the spin of UAE captain Mohammad Tauqir to great effect.

"One of the differences between this game and the Ireland-West Indies game the other day is the discipline of the bowlers. There were 15 wides in the UAE innings and a fair few already in this innings, that's the differences between the top nations and the associates I should think."

Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Brendan Taylor had a bit of a nightmare in the field earlier, looking generally shaky behind the stumps. But his form with the bat has been decent - and boy, do his team need him to perform now. He starts brightly enough, clipping two towards fine leg before adding a cheeky single. Then Chakabva slashes away a four in a productive over for Zimbabwe.

"The UAE are absolutely delighted by this, he played all around it, a little bit of swing and absolutely salmon and trout, hitting the middle of middle stump."

No repeat of Hamilton Masakadza's heroics against South Africa - he's gone. The Zimbabwe batsman shuffles back to the pavilion almost as quickly as he came out, as Javad's delivery beats his inside edge and smacks his pad bang in front of the wickets. Massive scalp for UAE.

Fast bowler Amjad Javed returns for another spell as Hamilton Masakadza strides forward to the middle. He impressed in Zimbabwe's opener against the mighty South Africa with a knock of 80, but can't get off the mark in a gentle introduction.
