Zimbabwe's Solomon Mire: "I think it could have been better, we didn't quite nail it in some areas and strayed from the game plan at times. It's an area we need to find a way to execute a bit better. It looks pretty good to bat out there so I think the boys will be looking forward to getting out there."

The United Arab Emirates have registered their best one-day international total. Their previous best was 282 against Afghanistan in Dubai last November.

"It's just like a dagger in the back when someone does that to you in the last few overs. They were really teeing off at everything and it has to be a reasonable total. There's no reason why it can't be chased down but at least they have given themselves a chance.

"Their batting has been pretty clinical for one of the teams that aren't expected to have a great batting side."

UAE captain Mohammad Tauqir said after the toss that he hoped his side could rack up about 280 - and that is exactly what they have done.

Naveed and Javed clock up their 50 partnership in the final over, helped by some suspect wicketkeeping as Brendan Taylor allows one through his gloves for four.

Good innings from the UAE - but you would think Zimbabwe should knock that tally off after the interval.

Hold on! Javed is throwing off those reins. He goes on the attack, peppering the boundary with a pair of fours and a massive six which nearly cleans out the DJ. That's what you get for playing Coldplay...

And partner Naveed wants a slice of the action too. He beautifully guides another four over cover point - that's 21 runs in that over for the UAE eighth-wicket partnership...

Another good over for Zimbabwe as they tighten the reins on the UAE batsmen. Tendai Chatara puts in another workmanlike over, conceding just the four runs as Zimbabwe close on an attainable chase.

Spinner Sean Williams goes again as he tries to pin back the free-hitting UAE batsmen. That he does before the PA system continues to loudly pump out the tunes, deafening the entire Nelson crowd with some slushy love song.

Phil Nicholas:, external If only England's ODI top order could perform like the UAE's is doing..Admittedly it's slow but 4/6 of the batsmen have got 30+

"We said the two new batsmen would have to get themselves in but Naveed has decided to take the other route and go for the fence."

UAE will reach 300 if new batsman Mohammed Naveed has anything to do with it. He launches Chatara high over the long-off boundary for a massive six which has the locals scampering to make the catch of their lives.

Naveed can't find any change in the next few balls, but then attacks again. He sits back in his crease, opens up on leg side and unleashes a pull which again goes for six.

"That's a huge blow, now we have two new batsmen at the wicket and that could be telling at the end."

  14. Postpublished at 01:08 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

So we wave goodbye to the last of UAE's specialist batsmen. But does that mean we wave goodbye to UAE's chances of reaching 300? One would think so.

All over for Shaiman Anwar - which is bad news for UAE, but great news for Zimbabwe. Anwar has proved to be a thorn in their side but looks to the clear sun-filled sky and grimaces after spooning straight to Ervine at mid-on.

"It was a little bit short and wide and Mustafa just got a tickle to the keeper. Good bowling really from Chatara, he saw where the batsman was. I would say he worked that wicket out well."

  18. WICKETpublished at 01:00 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

And right on cue Zimbabwe do send a UAE batsman packing back to the pavilion. But it isn't Anwar. Mustafa is the man walking with his bat tucked under his arm, the left-hander edging into the hands of wicketkeeper Taylor. Meat and drink for him.

  19. Postpublished at 00:58 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

Shaiman Anwar grins widely after somehow flicking the ball over the wicketkeeper's head and scuttling down to the boundary. The UAE batsman knows he is lucky to survive after getting into an almighty tangle. But survive he does - to the chagrin of Zimbabwe. They will be glad to see the back of this man...

    Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

"He went down the wicket, it was fairly well bowled digging into a length, it came straight off the bottom of the bat and looped to cover. The only problem looking at their score is the five wickets down. If they lose another couple you don't really want your bowlers trying to score at the end."
