Uh oh. That's one shot too many from Patil who steps out on the attack, trying to go over extra cover. But he only succeeds in scooping the ball into the hands of Chakabva. Excellent display from Patil nonetheless.

And new batsman Rohan Mustafa instantly gets off the mark as UAE end the over on 218-5.

Zimbabwe are giving runs away now. Not only are the swashbuckling UAE pair finding the boundary with stunning shots, their opponents are throwing the ball on to the rope for them. Solomon Mire juggles the ball over for four.

  3. Anwar reaches 50published at 00:46 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2015

If you're going to reach your 50, then you might as well reach it with a thumping six. And that's exactly what UAE batsman Anwar does. Moments after swivelling and hooking Panyangara for four, he smashes a big shot over the poor bowler's head for the match's first six. That's 50 off 37 balls with seven fours and one six.

"I'm not sure this pair have got it all together with their running. It's generally been pretty good in this innings but I'm not sure these two are quite in sync."

Another good over for the UAE. Anwar continues to take control, smashing a pair of fours, as the partnership with Patil passes the half century.

UAE know they need a total approaching the 300 mark, realistically, if they are to have any chance of earning only their second World Cup win.

And they begin to up the run-rate as Anwar changes gear and goes on the attack. That's pleased the local kids who are whooping and screaming with delight on the boundary.

"Since the powerplays were brought in a couple of years ago they have proven to be a fillip for the fielding captain because they can break partnerships. You should still stick to your strengths, you don't have to score runs by hitting the ball in the air."

Another cheap over from the Zimbabweans - which the UAE batsmen gladly snaffle. Kamungozi is the bowler in question and stands there bemused, hands over mouth, after watching Anwar knock him to the boundary. Twice. Kamungozi has a ring of fielders on the off side and chucks down a full toss which Anwar sweeps to the opposite boundary.

What's that time? Powerplay time! And it is a costly over from Zimbabwe bowler Solomon Mire as the UAE pair at the crease start to build up a tidy partnership.

Two poor deliveries from Mire cost him big. One down leg, plus one outside off, equals two easy boundaries for Patil.

The man in the hang glider that we told you about earlier is feeling a bit devilish - he's hovering perilously close to the Saxton Oval turf as spinner Sikander Raza sees us through to the drinks break.

Another tight over from Raza, who frustrates the UAE pair to just a couple of runs.

Sean Williams's overs are leaking more runs than your annoying bathroom tap leaks cold water. The spinner sees Anwar smash him for a boundary - that's the first time the UAE have found the rope for over five overs.

A couple of female fans are sat knitting in the Nelson sun - not a bad way to spend your Thursday off. In between their weaving, they see another tight over from Chatara. Zimbabwe will be happy with their bowling performance so far.

A hang glider floats over the Saxton Oval as Zimbabwe go back to the spin of Sean Williams. That has surely got to be the best view of the action. But it is not a great return for Williams, who watches the UAE pair of Patil and Anwar knock him for eight runs.

"He absolutely smashed that, it was short and wide I don't think he could have hit it any harder. I thought 'who is going to catch that?' It was a very good innings and I'm sure UAE will be very disappointed to lose the wicket but the bowling changes seem to be working. It's a very even contest."
