  2. UAE 81-2 (Chandran 18, Khan 21)published at 23:13 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Steadier stuff from Kamungozi but the batsmen rotate the strike and the partnership is up to 41 at the drinks break.

The lowest ever total in a Women's T20 is 57 by Sri Lanka in 2012. New Zealand are 50-8 after 17.1 here...

  4. 79-2 (run-rate 4.93)published at 23:10 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Williams, very wide of the crease, is going to struggle to get an lbw one would think, Khan sashays down the wicket, like us young 43-year-olds do frequently, and fluently drives over cover for his fourth boundary of an encouraging innings.

  5. UAE 71-2 (Chandran 15, Khan 14)published at 23:07 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Spin continues, or slow bowling at any rate, from Kamungozi, but he drops short and is ruthlessly dispatched to the boundary on two occasions by Chandran.

UAE chief executive David East: "It has been a decent start by our batsmen, they have moved the ball around a bit. I think we will be quite happy with this position."

  7. UAE 63-2published at 23:05 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Left-arm spin from Sean Williams. He doesn't hang around, which makes lengthy descriptions a problem. He gives it plenty of loop. No huge turn but no boundaries conceded either.

Khan, who in November became the oldest player to hit a one-day international century, at 43 years and 162 days, collects two far more authentic boundaries off Mire, a fluent cover drive and an effortless pull. Looks like an elegant left-hander as opposed to a gritty one. They tend to be one or the other. He's a prolific one anyway.

Andy:, external Decent start from UAE, hopefully they can get the scoreboard ticking over a little quicker!

New Zealand pass the halfway mark of their innings in the Twenty20 match against England - and the scorecard makes grim reading for the hosts.

England have taken another pair of wickets, leaving the White Ferns struggling on 31-7. Yes that's right, 31-7.

  12. UAE 52-2 (run-rate 4.33)published at 22:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Khurram Khan is the new man, one of the brace of 43-year-olds in the UAE side. He has an ODI average of 53.4, the fourth highest of anyone playing at least 10 innings. Zimbabwe skipper Elton Chigumbura, formerly of Northants for a brief spell, brings himself into the attack, so cue some weak puns referencing the bespectacled piano pounding rock luminary. He'd have approved of this red and yellow kit being a Watford man. Bit wayward from the younger Elton but he is unfortunate to see Khan get off the mark with an inside edge past the keeper for four.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

"It was another short delivery from Mire, like the one earlier in the over, and it is through too early. Berenger goes for the hook shot, the ball hits the toe end of the bat and it goes straight through to the keeper. There's not much of an appeal from Mire - there didn't need to be."

Berenger led a charmed life, dropped on nought and caught off a no-ball but this time he has gone. Opting for the pull shot it comes off the toe end of the bat and a simple catch to the keeper.

  15. Postpublished at 22:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

    Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

"Zimbabwe have bowled very tidily apart from that silly no-ball when they should have had a wicket. You should get a Chinese burn or something from your team-mates for doing that."

  16. UAE 34-1published at 22:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

The first spin and it's Tafadzwa Kamungozi. He has a long red cord coming from his dark glasses but safely behind his head and not distracting to the batsmen like Curtly Ambrose's white wristbands used to be. Tidy stuff and the boundaries have dried up, just the three in the opening powerplay overs.

  17. UAE 32-1 (Berenger 15, Chandran 3)published at 22:41 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

We have the first bowling change and it is Solomon Mire, another powerfully built right-arm seamer with impressively luxuriant mini-dreds and a neat beard. Not a classical action but plenty of shoulder there and just the one run conceded.

  18. UAE 31-1published at 22:38 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Just the one wide from Chatara, who is generating some good pace. He has 29 wickets from his 23 ODIs. The small crowd are in enthusiastic mood, and why not? They are at a beautiful ground and this has been good stuff so far.

  19. UAE 30-1 (Chatara 1-11)published at 22:34 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Krishna Chandran is the new man and he has yet to get himself a bat sponsorship. He is only in his seventh ODI to be fair to him, and has a current best of 43. Rather nice to see a clean piece of willow for a change anyway, with no marks on it at all yet. And he gets himself off the mark with a single off Panyangara.

Extraordinary scenes in Whangarei - England have reduced New Zealand's top order to a total resembling a rugby union result.

The White Ferns have tumbled to 11-5 in the early exchanges of their first Twenty20 match. The hosts need some middle order magic to avoid a pummelling.

England's Heather Knight has been the chief tormentor, taking 3-1 in a devastating four-over spell.
