  1. Ire 72-5 (K O'Brien 7, Balbirnie 24)published at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

The camera focuses on a young Irish fan, with his face painted. The match may be over as a contest, but he is still having a great time. He is very happy to see Balbirnie score a boundary, as he swept a full toss away over square leg for four runs. Seven off the over for Ireland.

  2. How they standpublished at 09:01 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

So any Irish hopes of winning the match have long blown away with the wind. But with net run rate likely to play a part in who makes the quarter-finals, Ireland will be desperate to build the best score they can do.

This is how things stood before the start of this match, and you could see a scenario where at least two out of Ireland, West Indies, Zimbabwe and Pakistan end up on the same amount of points. So still a lot to play for, for William Porterfield's side.

  3. Ire 65-5 (Balbirnie 24, O'Brien 5)published at 08:55 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

It's a double change as Behardien enters the attack with his medium pace. A chance for Ireland to cash in perhaps? Not yet. The batsmen are very respectful as they pick off some singles.

  4. Ire 61-5published at 08:52 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

Googly early doors. Driven to long-on. Then Tahir lands one on Balbirnie's toes, but the batsman reads it well and swishes to the square leg boundary for four.

  5. Ire 54-5 (target 412)published at 08:49 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

I've got a feeling this could just limp along for a few overs now. Single to O'Brien among five dots. Here's Imran Tahir to try to spice things up.

  6. Ire 53-5published at 08:46 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

The sun is setting on the Manuka Oval, the clouds tinged with orange. The sun went down on this match quite some time ago. We've got to go through the motions though and Ireland appear to be knuckling down now. A single apiece for Balbirnie and O'Brien off Steyn's latest.

Former India batsman Aakash Chopra on Twitter says:, external South Africa playing such cricket is bad news for Sri Lanka. Not the ideal team to run into in the quarter-finals. To avoid them Sri Lanka must beat Australia.

  8. Ire 51-5 (target 412)published at 08:41 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

Balbirnie helps one on its way past his hips and picks up two to fine leg. The goal for Ireland here has to be to bat out as many overs as possible, but that's easier said than done against this fearsome attack.

    Alan Lewis
Ex-Ireland captain on BBC Test Match Special

"South Africa said they were not taking this match lightly and they certainly haven't done so. Ireland are really under the cosh here."

  10. Ire 48-5 (Balbirnie 13, K O'Brien 0)published at 08:36 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

Now then, Ireland need to reach 122 runs to avoid the heaviest ever ODI defeat. I'd say it's in the (Gary) balance. And Imran Tahir - the destroyer of the Windies - hasn't even bowled a ball yet. It's a hammer blow to the Irish net run rate too.

  11. WICKETpublished at 08:32 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

Wilson misses a straight ball from Abbott and is trapped in front of leg. The finger goes up immediately. Worth a review? They have a chat, but opt against it. Three wickets for Abbott. Ireland are five down.

  13. Ire 47-4published at 08:31 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

Morkel is topping 90mph but Balbirnie anticipates the short ball and pulls it in front of square for four. Good response from Morkel. A much fuller ball spears past the outside edge.

  15. Ire 42-4published at 08:28 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

Gary Wilson is the new lamb to the slaughter. 370 runs still needed. Good luck Gaz.

  16. WICKETpublished at 08:26 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

O'Brien pulls Abbott for four then perishes trying to launch him over point. A thick edge is brilliantly taken by Amla at first slip. De Kock dived right across him and even got a glove to it, but Amla somehow clung on to the ball with a combination of arm, wrist and midriff.

    John Kenny
    BBC Test Match Special

"Ireland have to just bat. When you look at the conditions and the favourability of them, you see that the pitch is good and the outfield is quick. They have to just build a partnership between these two."

  18. Ire 37-3 (target 412)published at 08:23 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

Morne Morkel is on for Abbott. Hardly a let up for the Irish with 90mph bullets raining down from the sky. As it happens, a slower ball bamboozles Balbirnie and he scoops one which only just loops over the outstretched arms of square leg.

Rob Murphy:, external The run rate could be crucial for our quarter-final hopes so an unmerciful beating could cost us dearly. #BackingGreen

Kishin Mahtani:, external Pakistan need to buy the South African boys a beer if they make it out of this group. Really this result suits Pakistan.

  20. Ire 36-3 (O'Brien 10, Balbirnie 5)published at 08:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2015

Niall O'Brien shows there's still some fight in the Irish as he drives Steyn off the back foot for four. Then a pull shot sails into the sky, but lands safely short of the fielder at fine leg. The Irish run through for a second, much to Steyn's obvious ire.
