  1. Aus 129-1 (Warner 91, Smith 27)published at 08:07 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Afghanistan really need wickets pronto here - otherwise you feel Australia could threaten 400 with their line-up. Ahmadi, who has a not entirely imposing total of seven ODI wickets to his name, continues to perpetrate his fairly unthreatening brand of off-spin. Australia remain happy to tick over at a run a ball, and you can't really blame them.

  2. Aus 125-1published at 08:04 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Now then, helmets on again lads - Shapoor is back in operation. The paceman has decided to go around the wicket - a strategy that has brought him some success at this World Cup, notably against Scotland. No luck for him yet - four singles off his latest over.

  3. Aus 121-2 (partnership 107)published at 08:00 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Steve Smith, who has been in such magnificent form this Australian summer, didn't look entirely assured when he came to the crease, but he has just been allowed to play himself in in Warner's slipstream here. There are singles on offer, and at the moment Smith is content to take them - he moves on to 24, with no boundaries yet in his innings. Four from Ahmadi's over.

"Shenwari is just drifting off his line and giving too much width. He needs to be fuller. Warner is too good a batsman and he is hitting it very hard."

  5. Aus 117-1published at 07:57 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

With spin now in favour at both ends, both batsmen have now swapped their helmets for caps. Warner is on Easy Street here, coming down the track to Shenwari and smoking him through the covers for another four.

  6. Pakistan v UAE latestpublished at 07:55 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Over in Napier, Shaiman Anwar's defiance is over with the UAE batsman departing for 62 off 88 balls which currently puts him top of the tournament run scorers - even ahead of run machine Kumar Sangakkara.

Shahid Afridi is the man to take the wicket and three balls later, Boom Boom bags another and we're in to the bowlers.

  7. Aus 109-1 (run rate 6.05)published at 07:54 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Opening batsman Javed Ahmadi is the latest man called upon to deliver a bit of tweak.

Excellent running between the wickets has been a feature of this partnership but Smith almost perishes when Warner calls him through for a quick single. Too quick - he was gone there with a direct hit. A risk-free approach prevails for the rest of the over - just five easy singles from it.

  8. Aus 104-1published at 07:51 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

The trouble with part-time spinners is you can't really rely on them to deliver enough good balls in a row to create pressure - Shenwari pushes one wide of off stump and Warner pounces on it with a shackle-loosening drive through the covers for four. Then Shenwari errs again with a short ball and again Warner makes room to flay him through the off-side for four. The opener looks in terrific nick here.

  9. Aus 94-1 (Warner 67, Smith 12)published at 07:47 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Steve Smith has taken 27 balls to get to 16 - he loves to use his feet to the spinners and you just wonder how long it will be before we see him skip down the track. Nothing yet, for now he's just content to turn the strike over - four off Nabi's latest set.

  10. Aus 90-1published at 07:45 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

This burgeoning partnership between Warner and Smith is now worth 74 - could part-time spinner Samiullah Shenwari be the man to break it? Shenwari, with a skippy run-up and a flippy action, is on the mark with a very decent first over - just two singles from it.

Australia are just slightly becalmed after that fast start, but they'll be happy just to keep this pair at the crease for the time being.

  11. Drinks breakpublished at 07:39 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Afghanistan need Hamid Hassan to fire if they're going to put this imposing Aussie batting line-up under pressure, and this is a much improved over from the charismatic quickie - just two singles from it. We're going to have an early drinks break - it is apparently quite hot in Perth.

"Smith is doing the smart thing in giving the strike back to Warner, who is hitting it well and hitting boundaries. These two have been running brilliantly between the wickets as well, which has increased the pressure on the fielders."

  13. Aus 86-1published at 07:34 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Nabi continues. We saw just how crucial a good spinner can be on these Australian tracks in the Big Bash tournament, and Nabi has dried up the flow of boundaries, but the fielding needs to be sharper from Afghanistan - easy singles and twos allow Warner and Smith to milk seven from an over in which they didn't really play a shot in anger.

  14. Pakistan v UAE latestpublished at 07:32 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

In Napier, Shaiman Anwar has become only the third Associate player to score more than 250 runs at a World Cup.

The right-hander's notched a half century against Pakistan in just 75 balls, including three fours and two sixes.

Earlier in the competition, he scored a century against Ireland.

But, it's still very much a case of playing for pride for UAE with a victory target of 340 looking almost improbable.

  15. Aus 79-1 (Warner 57, Smith 12)published at 07:30 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Hassan, who really hasn't settled yet, continues from the other end. He still hasn't learnt his lesson though - another short ball, another meaty Warner pull, another four. Pitch it up!

  16. Aus 70-1published at 07:25 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Now, a different test for Australia - the Powerplay fielding restrictions are over and there is going to be pace off the ball now in the form of Mohammed Nabi's off-spin. It's a very fine over by the skipper, momentarily putting the brakes on Australia with just two runs off it.

"Maybe it is inexperience and they got excited when they saw the bounce from this surface, but the Afghanistan bowlers have been digging it in and that is just what Warner wanted. He has played some superb shots."

  18. Scorecard updatepublished at 07:22 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

  19. 50 for Warnerpublished at 07:22 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

The short ball isn't really coming off this track with any real venom and at the moment it's just hitting practice for a menacing David Warner - Hassan digs in a short one and Warner swats it behind square leg for four. Warner is in no mood to let the bowler settle, and when he compensates by pitching his next delivery up, Warner pumps his down to mid-off for another four.

What can Hassan try to stop this onslaught? Not the slower ball, apparently - that gets the treatment too, pinged straight back over the bowler's head for another four. Fifty up for Warner: this is an excellent start for the hosts.

  20. Pakistan v UAE latestpublished at 07:18 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

A brave fourth wicket partnership for UAE has come to an end in Napier and 340 looks even further away now.

Khurram Khan is the latest man to go for UAE, caught smartly at square leg by Wahab Riaz for 43 off the bowling of Sohaib Maqsood.
