  1. UAE 42-3 (target 340)published at 06:24 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

The Emirati are limping along here, just a single from Rahat's over. And with Sohail looking like he had pulled a hamstring or something last over - he's certainly in some discomfort - it's going to be Wahab Riaz to take up the attack.

"You won't see two better shots in that over or in this match. That was McCullum-esque, clipping a square cut over point for six."

  3. UAE 41-3 (Khurram 9, Anwar 11)published at 06:19 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

It's still an all-seam attack from Pakistan - we're hearing that the lumbering Mohammad Irfan has lumbered off the field with an injury, although I didn't spot him leave - and a slightly tired-looking Sohail is in for his seventh over. Anwar takes advantage as he forces a four through the covers off the back foot, before swatting a six over point towards the umpire's room. Fourth ump Marais Erasmus throws the ball back.

"It's tough work for UAE although Anwar and Khurram are their best two players in terms of averages. They're the best chance of posting a respectable total. The game has gone, but it's about what UAE can get out of it in terms of a development point of view."

  5. UAE 31-3 (target 340)published at 06:16 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Former captain Khurram again starts the over with a single, and Anwar takes time to play himself in, finally getting off the mark with a single off the last ball. It looks as though they have already accepted the inevitable.

  6. Australia v Afghanistan - team newspublished at 06:15 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Australia make two changes to the XI that lost narrowly last time out against New Zealand. Josh Hazlewood comes in for Pat Cummins and James Faulkner makes his first appearance of the tournament, in place of Shane Watson, who pays the price for scoring just one fifty in his last 12 innings.

Afghanistan bring in Usman Ghani for Gulbadin Naib.

Australia: David Warner, Aaron Finch, Michael Clarke (capt), Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Brad Haddin (wk), James Faulkner, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood.

Afghanistan: Javed Ahmadi, Usman Ghani, Nawroz Mangal, Asghar Stanikzai, Samiullah Shenwari, Mohammad Nabi (capt), Najibullah Zadran, Afsar Zazai (wk), Dawlat Zadran, Hamid Hassan, Shapoor Zadran.

There's a slight delay while Umar Akmal sorts out a problem with his gloves - looks like his inner gloves rather than those enormous pink wicketkeeping gauntlets.

  8. UAE 29-3 (Sohail 6-2-15-2)published at 06:10 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

New batsman Shaiman Anwar takes guard for the first time - with scores of 67, 106 and 35 from the first three group games, he's arguably been the UAE's man of the tournament so far. Born in Sialkot, Pakistan, he's facing the country of his birth for the first time in international cricket, and plays out a maiden over.

  9. Scorecard updatepublished at 06:08 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

  10. UAE 29-3 (target 340)published at 06:06 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

With the powerplay restrictions over in Napier, Pakistan might as well keep the close fielders in, considering the UAE's pedestrian approach so far. They opt to retain two slips. Short and wide from Rahat, and Khurram guides it for four square of the wicket.

  11. Australia v Afghanistan - Toss newspublished at 06:04 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Afghanistan have won the toss in Perth and captain Mohammed Nabi has elected to field. Team news in a minute.

Karate falls for a 11-ball duck - looking listless against Sohail before timidly edging the last ball of the over for another catch to the wicketkeeper.

"It's dark enough for the floodlights to be taking full effect. However, Misbah is still wearing his shades. At 40, he should know better. Frankly, he's no Corey Hart. 'I wear my sunglasses at night'."

  15. UAE 23-2 (target 340)published at 05:58 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

The Napier DJ plays a few bars of REM's "Man on the Moon", but it's already looking like the UAE will be turned over before the moon comes out - certainly, they've got nothing up their sleeves.

Rahat Ali begins his second over, the veteran left-hander Khurram Khan pushes one off his legs and while you wouldn't think there were many threes square of the wicket with the short square boundaries of McLean Park, there is when Mohammad Irfan - not the quickest over the first 10 yards - gives chase.

"Sohail Khan's bowling a good length and getting the ball right up there. He's being effective, picking up an early wicket too and UAE are in a perilous position here. There's no point hanging around here, they might as well just go for it."

  17. Appeal - not outpublished at 05:53 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

It's all happening as Sohail appeals for lbw against new batsman Khurram Khan, non-striker Karate charges through for a single as the ball drops at Khurram's feet and none of the fielders react quickly, and the upshot of it all is... a leg bye is signalled.

At the moment, this game is only heading one way. We'll have news of the toss from Australia v Afghanistan in Perth in a few minutes' time at 06:00 GMT.

"The batsman had to commit outside off stump, but it had the drift as well that just enticed the edge. There wasn't much celebration from the fielders."

Sohail whistles one down which takes Berenger's outside edge and it's a regulation catch - even for Umar Akmal. He never looked convincing, the opener, and at the moment this match is only going one way.
