Chris Barnett: These two going well. Decent recovery for Bangladesh.

  2. Ban 62-2 (Mahmudullah 30, Sarkar 24)published at 04:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Time for a bit of spin. The bearded Moeen Ali seems to have a plan in place as he positions a leg slip and then fires the ball down to the right-hander, looking for a strangle. The ball is bouncing up to the height of the wicketkeeper's gloves, meaning the cut and pull shot could prove dangerous. Four from the over.

  3. Ban 58-2 (Partnership 50 off 68)published at 04:29 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Chris Woakes is chucked the ball by Eoin Morgan, who stands in ear-shot as James Anderson offers some words of advice. With his short, back and sides haircut and baby face, it's easy to forget Woakes is developing into one of England's best bowlers.

A solid over is spoilt when Woakes sends down a leg-side wide and the extra delivery is smashed through the covers by the classy Sarkar.

"The selectors would have stewed over whether to drop Finn and bring in Jordan. To me, that's probably the end of Finn's tournament. I don't think we'll be seeing him again."

  5. Ban 52-2 (Mahmudullah 27, Sarkar 19)published at 04:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

We're starting to see how big and fast this outfield is now. First Mahmudullah clatters a short ball for four through the off side and then Sarkar unfurls back-to-back drives which bring a combined seven runs. Chris Jordan is proving expensive in his second over, going for 15 runs.

Plimsoll Tangent: Ballsy to field first. So far so good, but if this WC has shown anything it's that you know nothing until both sides have batted.

  7. Ban 37-2 (run-rate: 3.36)published at 04:18 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

A Bangladesh supporter lets out a loud shriek in the stands as Mahmudullah plays and misses with a pull shot. Wearing war paint across his nose, Anderson chunters to himself as the right-hander takes a couple of twos with more correct shots.

  10. Ban 32-2 (Sarkar 12, Mahmudullah 14)published at 04:14 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Time to see what Chris Jordan can do in this tournament. Muscular and with a mean look in his eyes, he ambles in and runs one across the left-hander. He follows up with a couple of leg-side wides. Consistency has always been the fast bowler's problem, but he's capable of taking a wicket at any time. When he does land it in the right areas, he sends down a succession of dots.

"There was a suggestion that a crowd of 17,000 would be inside the Adelaide Oval today. We're nowhere near that yet, but there is a pocket of Bangladesh fans - green-shirted, flag-waving, whistle-tooting - making a helluva din. On then opposite side of the ground, England fans congregate in the shade. Their flags, adorned with names of football teams, hang from a wall."

  13. Ban 30-2 (Sarkar 12, Mahmudullah 14)published at 04:08 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

I'm not sure if Mahmudullah has found the middle of his bat yet. He gets another four via an under-edge down to fine leg. James Anderson wipes the sweat from his brow and frowns... he does a lot of that. Eoin Morgan makes a decent diving stop at backward point, then gets up and applauds. Hopefully that was more to do with encouragement than patting himself on the back.

  16. Ban 26-2 (Sarkar 12, Mahmudullah 10)published at 04:05 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Stuart Broad is not getting the same swing as James Anderson, maybe England might decide to bring on Chris Jordan or Chris Woakes soon? Two runs and a single added to the score.

  18. Ban 23-2 (England won toss)published at 04:01 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

The dropped Steven Finn is eating a yoghurt in the shade and sitting next to James Tredwell. Remember him? Wasn't he a decent one-day cricketer in his time?!

England continue to leak the odd boundary in their pursuit of another wicket, but their full length continues to trouble the batsmen as Sarkar almost chops on to his own stumps via an inside edge. Six from the over.

  20. Ban 17-2 (Sarkar 7, Mahmudullah 6)published at 03:56 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

It's almost 80 degrees in Adelaide today, meaning it's not the day to be wearing a fluffy tiger onesie as two Bangladesh fans appear to be. They'll be buying a random t-shirt and shorts set from the ground's shop later on.

Out in the middle, Stuart Broad grimaces as Mahmudullah squeezes a fortunate boundary through backward point. England shouldn't mind, the batsman was about as controlled as a kid in a sweet shop there.
