Tickles and nurdles, nudges and the odd push. This really is old-school one-day cricket, but England won't mind that one jot. Time for some drinks, served by Adelaide's finest (and tallest) cocktail waiter ... Steven Finn.

  2. Ban 151-4published at 05:52 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Good spell from Woakes this - he only concedes two from his seventh over. He's probably been England's most consistent bowler at this World Cup, but that isn't saying much, frankly.

Billy: If they get over 280 we have had it and will crumble under the pressure and be out for 150.

IamJahid: If the current trend of runs keeps going for another 10 overs with the same wickets, BD tigers will win.

TheWack: 50/50 I'd say. Gonna have to try the old cup of tea trick I think. Need a wicket which hopefully will happen while I brew up.

  5. Ban 149-4published at 05:47 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Mushfiqur spots one of the pockets of green-shirted Bangladesh fans and creams a ball from Moeen straight towards them for a single-bounce four. A single brings up the fifty partnership off 61 balls. After yesterday's slugfest between Australia and Sri Lanka, this match fells refreshingly old-fashioned.

"The Bangladesh drummer is warming up again with rhythmic beating as the crowd continues to grow with late arrivals. Since the ball has topped moving in the air, England's plan has been to go back of a length - sweepers out square, third man and fine leg. Looks good when it works, not so clever when it doesn't."

  7. Ban 142-4 (Mahmudullah 67, Mushfiqur 23)published at 05:43 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Quiet over - England are more than happy for those. Been far too many noisy ones when they've been bowling this tournament. Mahmudullah takes a single to keep the strike. He has 67 off 94 balls. I'd expect him to accelerate soon.

"It would be nice if Bangladesh took the powerplay early, so that England have to use James Anderson and Stuart Broad earlier than they hoped."

Dave Mangham: As usual, England seem to be making hard work of this! Bowling attack a little lacking & predictable.

  10. Ban 139-4published at 05:40 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Makeshift bowler time. Joe Root turns his arm over and the batters work him for four ones and a two. We're entering a crucial phase now and England would love another wicket before too long.

  11. Ban 133-4published at 05:39 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Woakes sends down just the type of over England needed. Probing away a foot or so outside off stump, he frustrates Mahmudullah, who swings and misses.

In many ways, Woakes is the antithesis of a fast bowler. The best of the bunch tend to have a sinister look about them. Think Dale Steyn or Dennis Lillee. Woakes looks like a boy who's been polished and groomed by his mum for his first day at grammar school.

"The last year has not been good for Bangladesh, apart from when they beat Zimbabwe. There were high hopes for them to play some good cricket, but it hasn't happened. You can't imagine how much the 170m people in the country want them to win. They just want them to compete, to take games to the final over. If they don't that's when the disappointment comes."

  13. Ban 130-4published at 05:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Short again from Broad, anticipated by Mushfiqur, who dabs it through the vacant slip area for four. Broad shakes his head, I'm not sure why, it was short and wide and begging to helped on its way to the rope. Singles either side. This partnership is just starting to develop in the Adelaide afternoon sun.

"I'm not sure how he got six with that shot, he was almost bailing out of it and got a top edge over the fence. It's hard for Jordan, who has just been in the nets and the gym waiting to be called upon."

  16. Ban 124-4published at 05:28 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Mahmudullah takes his eye off a short ball, swats at it with his bat and somehow still gets enough on it to send it into the stands over fine leg. These square boundaries are super short - 54m I'm told - and that may suit England's batting line-up, especially with the addition of muscle-man Hales.

  17. Ban 117-4published at 05:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Crack! Mushfiqur's eyes light up at the sight of a wide one from Broad and he cuts it away for a boundary. Broad resorts to the short stuff with some success, before the batsman flicks through midwicket for a couple. Broad, by the way, still hasn't taken a wicket since he got two in two balls against Australia - back on 14 February.

Thanks Marc. Morning everybody. Hope you're not flagging too much if you're staying up all night for this one. Feels like England have a slight edge but the Bangladeshi run rate is decent and they could still make this very tricky for Morgan and his men. Let's see how it all unfolds....

  19. Ban 111-4 (run-rate: 4.44)published at 05:17 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2015

Chris Jordan is doing exactly what England wanted Steven Finn to do. He's bending his back, bowling at a decent lick and keeping the batsmen honest. Mushfiqur, who can't be much taller than 5ft 6ins, ducks underneath a bouncer. Mahmudullah is returned the strike and he eases a cover drive to the boundary.

And with that, it's time for me to hand over the live text baton to Sam Sheringham. Enjoy.
