  2. Ire 96-3 (run rate 4.8)published at 05:02 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Afridi doesn't turn many with his leg-spin - his weapon is his accuracy and he almost strikes when he fizzes a flat delivery just past Balbirnie's outside edge. Boom Boom is quickly through his set for just the loss of a single - a little pressure building on Ireland all of a sudden here.

"Will Porterfield has got to get a hundred here - that will boost Ireland. The others can play around him and get Ireland past 270. That's the minimum they should be targeting. "

  4. Ire 95-3published at 05:00 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Nothing better for a batsman than getting a boundary off the first ball of an over - it relieves the pressure and allows him to proceed with caution for the rest of the over. That's exactly what happens when the fluent Porterfield glances Rahat down the leg side for four, enabling him to retreat into his shell for the remaining five balls without doing too much damage to the run-rate.

  5. Ire 91-3 (Porterfield 57, Balbirnie 3)published at 04:55 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Will Porterfield is playing an absolute gem and Ireland just need someone to stay with the skipper for a while. Afridi continues, bowling flat and fast. The batsmen milk him for three singles.

  6. Ire 88-3published at 04:52 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Andrew Balbirnie is the new man, and he's away with two past point.

"It was a special effort by Umar Akmal because that ball was tonked hard. A very fine catch indeed. He did not have any time to react. Niall O'Brien got out when he was looking OK."

Every time Ireland threaten to get away, Pakistan keep hauling them back in. Short ball from Rahat, O'Brien tries to punch it square but the ball stops in the pitch and he ends up hitting it to short cover, where Umar Akmal takes a brilliant one-hander. Blinder.

"The chat of both teams playing green reminds me of a comment I heard in the Sydney press box on Friday during the England v Afghanistan game. 'Both teams are playing blue, how do we tell them apart?' You mean like when they all they play in white?"

  10. 50 for Porterfieldpublished at 04:47 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

It's Boom Boom time. Shahid Afridi, in his 397th ODI, is handed the ball. Porterfield dinks his first ball behind square on the leg side for an elegant single, and then brings up his fifty with a swatted cover-drive for four. It's been a very fluent knock from the Irish captain - his team need him to go big here.

"Pakistan certainly blessed with left-arm fast bowlers. Can't help hoping there is a place for Mohammed Amir though.... Soon?"

  12. Drinks breakpublished at 04:40 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Niall O'Brien attempts a more successful imitation of his skipper than Ed Joyce - his pull shot to a short Wahab delivery screams over the infield and away to the rope for a one-bounce four. Perhaps rattled, Wahab sends down a sloppy wide. Time for drinks.

  13. Man of the matchpublished at 04:40 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

West Indies captain Jason Holder: "The ball came out really well for me at the start. The pitch was a bit slow but it swung and bounced a bit for me.

"I'm extremely pleased with the way the guys came out and played. We needed to win by a certain margin. We had to show positive intent. We knew we had to finish the game inside 36 overs and we did it."

On facing New Zealand: "It would be a big test. They are playing some very good cricket."

  14. West Indies beat UAE by six wicketspublished at 04:39 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

UAE captain Mohammad Tauqir: "When the West Indies put us into bat first, they took good advantage of the bowling conditions. At 46-6 it was difficult to recover but it was a good effort by the batsmen Amjad Javed and Nasir Aziz. Amjad been very consistent throughout the tournament and has been a positive for us.

"It was a decent performance for us in this tournament, a good learning experience and it has been very enjoyable."

  15. Ire 71-2 (Porterfield 47, N O'Brien 6)published at 04:37 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

That win for the West Indies means this is now a straight knockout game - only a tie or an abandonment can send both these teams through.

Porterfield continues to canter along, collecting a couple of twos into the vacant mid-on region and then a streaky four with a thick edge through second slip.

    Derek Stirling
Ex-New Zealand seamer on BBC Test Match Special

"This game was decided in first 10 overs really. We saw an excellent spell of bowling from the West Indies captain Jason Holder - good, sharp bowling around off stump. It was a brave stand in the middle by Javed and Aziz, and UAE worked hard to get their total.

"The Windies did what they had to do, they went through the motions a little bit in the field. Having said that they batted well and we saw a couple of good innings. In the end they won at a canter."

  17. Ire 62-2published at 04:31 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Niall O'Brien is the new man, and he's off the mark in style with a back-foot punch through point for four.

  18. WICKETpublished at 04:29 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Ed Joyce has had a couple of lives, but he can't make Pakistan pay today. He tries to pull Wahab over midwicket a la Will Porterfield, but he's late on the shot and the ball balloons straight up in the air - Umar Akmal pouches it safely at square cover. Wicket number 12 of the tournament for Wahab.

  19. West Indies beat UAE by six wicketspublished at 04:27 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Jonathan Carter completes his half-century as the West Indies reach their 176 target in 30.3 overs to win by six wickets. Handshakes all round. That wasn't entirely convincing from the Windies but it should be enough to see them through to the quarters.

  20. Ire 53-1 (Porterfield 36, Joyce 11)published at 04:27 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Ireland play out the rest of the over in risk-free manner - just a single for Joyce.

Pakistan are screaming at each other to throw the ball in on the bounce - to rough it up and get it reversing later on, perhaps?
