"They took a boundary fielder from cover point and put him into the ring, and moved another fielder to the legside boundary. Maqsood thought 'if I can clear the infield...', but he hit it straight to Johnson. Another Pakistan batsman has looked OK but been unable to kick on. Now we are getting into the tail - Pakistan will do well to bat their overs, let alone set a target which will test Australia."

Pakistan's mini-recovery is over. Just when they were getting a bit of momentum, Maqsood tries to drive a straight one from Hazlewood, but he can't get it up and over cover and instead picks out Johnson, who juggles it at point. Pakistan are in danger of not batting out the overs here.

"When Riaz tries to play in an orthodox manner, he misses the ball. He retreated towards the leg side there, Starc followed him, and somehow he flicked it over mid-on for four. Even Starc had a wry smile on his face, though he tried not to let Riaz see it."
This is an entertaining little battle between Starc and Wahab. Wahab edges one on the bounce to the keeper, then he manages to muscle one to the boundary, stepping away to off and shovelling a full ball over midwicket for four. These are valuable runs for Pakistan.

"An entertaining couple of overs - Starc had a word with Riaz, who's happy to respond, then we had four overthrows."

Perhaps that little contretemps has fired up Wahab - he steps down the track and carts Faulkner down the ground for four. Great riposte from the bowler, dug in short and rising sharply as the batsman sways out of the way.
Faulkner won't like that though, four overthrows! Wahab fends one to point, where Mitchell Johnson swoops on it and hurls a hopelessly inaccuarate throw halfway between both sets of stumps and away to the boundary. Rader mislaid - that was like the 2009 Ashes all over again.
Mitchell Starc has temporarily mislaid his wicket-taking mojo - he just can't find the edge of the bat at the moment. Again and again he beats the blade - he's almost bowling too well, getting a bit of late swing. Some verbals when Wahab misses for the umpteenth time, before umpire Ian Gould steps in to restore order.
Haris Hameed: Afridi played honestly in his last ODI (if we lose). That his ODI average is 23 and he scored 23. Farewell to a great entertainer.
Wahab is a genuine tail-ender, he's not as good as most of the number 8s at this World Cup. He's all at sea against Faulkner's mix of full angled deliveries and slower balls, fencing repeatedly outside off in search of a glide down to third man but finding nothing but fresh air. Just one off the over, so far the powerplay isn't offering any relief for Pakistan.
Mitchell Starc returns. Pakistan nearly lose another wicket to a cross-bat shot as Maqsood gets a top edge and it just eludes Shane Watson at short midwicket.
Wahab is off the mark with a single off the pads, before a rare fumble from Warner at backward point allows Maqsood a single. Starc finishes with a jaffa, full and just leaving the batsman late.
There's nothing wrong with a cameo, but that was more like kamikaze from Afridi. Couldn't he have waited one over for the powerplay to play a few shots with the fielders in?
As it is, it's Maqsood and Wahab who face the first over of the powerplay from James Faulkner. With a partnership sorely needed though, survival is the order of the day, and Maqsood blocks out five dots before stealing a single.
Wahab Riaz is the new man. Maqsood picks up two past point, and it's time for the batting powerplay.
Allan Border
Ex-Australia captain on BBC Test Match Special
"There was nothing wrong with the shot but he hit it straight to Finch in the deep, who took a good catch over his head. That was a bright and breezy innings from Shahid Afridi but they needed more from him today.
"Australia are into the late order here so there's a lot of responsibility on Maqsood's shoulders to get the total to something competitive - 200 plus."
He's in business now though! Once again Pakistan are sucked in by the lure of the short square boundaries at the Adelaide Oval, and once again Aaron Finch swallows the catch.
Shahid Afridi calculates that Pakistan need to take a few risks - he gets lucky when a top edge sails over Brad Haddin, but his good fortune runs out three balls later when he slogs one straight down the throat of deep midwicket. The grizzled old entertainer departs the stage - has he played his last World Cup innings?
Is Aaron Finch in business again? No! Shahid Afridi gets a wide one from Johnson and carves it just over the ropes at point for six. Both these batsmen are looking to give themselves a running start before the powerplay in two overs' time. Sohaib ends the over with a two to midwicket, and it's time for another drinks break.
Hazlewood, who has been economical so far, returns. Maqsood gets an edge down to third man for two, then picks up a short one from Hazlewood and slaps it to the midwicket fence for four.
Down! Australia almost have a sixth wicket when Maqsood pops a leading edge back at Mitchell Johnson, who reacts well to get himself in a good position but can't hang on to the chance. Michael Clarke has his hands on his head in the slips. It's a good over though, just a single from it.
