Medium pace from both ends now as James Faulkner enters the attack. He operates at a similar pace to Watson but has rather more variation of his sleeve. A steady start from the all-rounder, just two singles from his first over.

"I have had conversations with the chairman but I think what we need to do is sit down and do it face to face. I don't think me speaking on a telephone is the way forward to making big decisions.

"I love what Colin Graves has done for Yorkshire and I love the vision the new chairman has. It is very positive. It's an exciting time so to be part of that would be amazing."

Shane Watson is summoned to deliver some trundly medium pace. He bounds in, golden locks flowing, like an ever-loyal but slightly geriatric golden retriever.

Perhaps it's the lack of pace from the bowler, perhaps it's the impetuosity of youth, but Haris nearly undoes this duo's good work with a very rash shot. He tries to slog Watto but gets a big top edge and is very lucky to see it land safe as backward point and third man converge.

Maxwell continues. Misbah likes off-spin - he averages 117 against this type of bowling. And he particularly likes off-spin when it's dropped a little short, right into his strike zone. Maxwell errs off the final ball and Misbah swats him over the ropes at midwicket.

"Anywhere towards the late 200s would put a lot of pressure on Australia and set the game up. I want a fair game here, I don't want a walkover."

  6. Pkn 69-2published at 04:49 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

Haris has a nice wristy, fluent style - he picks up three more with a well-timed clip through mid-on. Late swing from Johnson causes Misbah to find the inside edge again as he attempts to push towards extra cover - it ends up bringing him a single to fine leg.

Electric fielding from David Warner at point denies Haris a single as Maxwell begins with three dots. You get the sense that Haris doesn't share Misbah's placid temperament and could be tempted into a rash stroke if tied down, but he gets off strike with a bunt down to long-on.

Ooh, that's brilliant from Maxwell, the straight one foxes Misbah and slides past the outside edge. Time for a drink.

"It's important these two do get Pakistan somewhere. Misbah is in very good form, but they definitely need a rebuilding phase here. They are doing it at a pretty good rate at the moment and there's plenty of intensity in their running too."

  9. Pkn 64-2published at 04:39 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

Good running between the wickets isn't a traditional feature of Pakistan's batting but these two have shown a bit of hustle so far - they scamper through for two when Misbah drops a short ball from Johnson into the leg side. This is turning into a good recovery from Pakistan.

"Misbah has done a great job. They wouldn't be here without him. When they have lost early wickets he has been the one who has held them together. Sometimes they can get a bit chaotic, but he just brings calmness to the group with bat in hand and when they are out in the field."

Time for some part-time tweak from Glenn Maxwell. We've seen occasional spin play a big role in one of these quarter-finals already, with JP Duminy picking up a hat-trick against Sri Lanka - can Maxwell play a part here?

The previously ponderous Misbah suddenly roars into life, getting down on one knee and slog-sweeping G-Max with the spin, into the stands at cow corner, That's the first maximum of the innings.

Haris Hameed: Everyone's tipping Aussies to wins but the Green shirts can surprise you again. Pakistan to win with a maiden ODI ton for Misbah.

  13. Pkn 52-2published at 04:32 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

Haris Sohail isn't going to die wondering here. Johnson digs one in short and the batsman tries to get bat on it with an extraordinary stroke that wouldn't look out of place on a tennis court. A grin from the moustachioed Johnson as the ball sails through to the keeper.

Perhaps cowed, Sohail goes more orthodox next ball, nudging MJ into the leg side for a single.

Prashant Srivastava: If Pakistan can somehow get close to 250 they can still challenge Aussies. But that's still quite far away.

Oof! Plenty of feeling in that one from Haris Sohail, pitched up from Hazlewood and the batsman throws the kitchen sink at it, planting his foot and blasting it past mid-off for a pressure-relieving four.

And he goes again! Haris has taken it on himself to restore a bit of aggression to this innings and this time he steps away and batters Hazlewood through the covers. That's woken the Pakistani fans up.

Australia are very much on top after that first powerplay but the ice-cool Misbah is the kind of man you want around in a crisis. He continues to plod along at his own pace, advancing the tally by one with a nonchalant clip off his hips.

  19. Pkn 37-2 (run rate 3.7)published at 04:18 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

Big shout from Josh Hazlewood as he gets one to nip back off the seam and rap Misbah on the pads. The 40-year-old batsman, drawing on all his years of experience, rubs his leg vigorously above the knee-roll, successfully persuading the umpire to decline the appeal on the grounds of height.

Great fielding the ring has been a real feature of Australia's campaign so far, allowing them to ratchet up the pressure on the batsmen, and David Warner keeps Haris under the pump with a superb sprawling stop at backward point. Just one off the over.

  20. Pkn 36-2published at 04:14 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

Here's the last man you want to see when you're in a bit of trouble after eight overs - the snarling, tattooed figure of Mitchell Johnson.

Misbah gets a bit lucky off the first ball, driving with his bat well away from his body and inside-edging it to the boundary. The batsmen exchange singles before MJ serves up an absolute ripper to Misbah, angled across the batsmen and whistling narrowly past his tentative forward prod.
