Chuck in Oundle: Still no TV or internet so back at the pub. Exam tomorrow but after hearing what Joe Root said, there's no way I'm missing this. It should be the Kiwis praying for rain today, let's go England!

More from Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie on leg-spinner Adil Rashid: "I really do think Adil Rashid is ready to make the step up to Test cricket. I've seen him perform in a lot of different conditions.

"It was disappointing not to see him get an opportunity in conditions that would have suited him in the Caribbean. Bowling at the lower order is his bread and butter- he gives the ball flight, he spins it hard and he creates indecision."

  3. Record breakers?published at 10:48 British Summer Time 2 June 2015

A reminder that Test records must tumble if England are to score 455 and win today.

    • The highest successful fourth-innings run chase is 418-7 by West Indies against Australia in Antigua in 2003

    • The highest unsuccessful (losing) fourth-innings run chase is 451 all out by New Zealand against England in Christchurch in 2002 - also the highest fourth-innings score in a five-day Test

The only fourth-innings total higher than that 451 was the 654-5 by England against South Africa in Durban in the famous Timeless Test of 1939, when England were set 696 to win, but play was halted at tea on the 10th (!) day as England had to catch their boat home.

"I think it's just bravado from Joe Root, trying to match New Zealand's attacking brand of cricket. The way England bowled yesterday morning took the win out of the equation. I don't think Ian Bell is going to come out at four looking to win."

Jason Gillespie on the Tuffers and Vaughan Show, about his recent brush with the England job:

"I saw it as a massive positive. I was flattered to be spoken about with the role. It was a win-win. I never felt for one minute that I had anything to lose: I've got two great roles currently, but if an international opportunity came up, it would have been a hard job to turn down. It was a great learning experience. One of the things that I would have thought about bringing to English cricket is that real positive intent. Getting the message across of going out there and playing with a bit of freedom."

Steven: Brave to aim for the highest chase score, but foolish to think New Zealand won't exploit the ambition!

  7. Get involvedpublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 2 June 2015

So, do you think England can do it? If they got close and New Zealand had to dry the runs up, would Brendon McCullum's attacking captaincy style allow him to put all 10 fielders on the boundary and bowl a foot wide of off stump (as is perfectly legal in first-class cricket)? Or have Joe Root's comments about chasing over 400 in a day - whether he was told to say them or not - opened England up to mild ridicule?

Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie, who was interviewed for the England job before last week's appointment of Trevor Bayliss, was on last night's Tuffers and Vaughan Cricket Show on BBC Radio 5 live - and he had a lot to say about the interview process, how England should have bowled at the tail-enders, among other things.

You can listen again on the TMS podcast page - which also features a number of interviews from earlier in the Test, including Clare Connor, Dom Joly, Michael Parkinson, John Holder on "Ask the Umpire", as well as Aggers and Geoffrey Boycott's review of each day.

  10. Weather updatepublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 2 June 2015

BBC Weather's Simon King: "I've just been looking at the radar and there is some drizzle just upwind of Headingley. While the forecast is pretty optimistic overall, there is the prospect of a brief delay due to damp conditions around 11. The wind is going to be a big feature of play: it could gust up to around 40-45mph this afternoon."

  12. Player's viewpublished at 10:36 British Summer Time 2 June 2015

Spinner Moeen Ali on whether England will press for victory: "We're just going to play as normal as we can and see where we are after an hour or so. If we get through that without a wicket down, we've got a good chance."

"I'm sure the Yorkshire commercial department got hold of Joe Root and asked him to say England would come out with all guns blazing. If they're 350-1 at tea, then go for it, but there's a long while before we get there..."

    Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

"I don't understand the thought behind what Joe Root said last night about winning. If you offered the England team a draw now they'd take it. The ball's not going to hoop around today. But I don't see enough in the pitch to suggest they can't bat 98 overs."

    Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

"The New Zealand slip fielders will have cold hands, so hopefully they'll put a few down like England did. The cover fielders might get a bit distracted if they don't get a few wickets, so that could work in England's favour."

  16. Weather forecastpublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 2 June 2015

A single rain droplet on the BBC weather forecast, but the summary says "rather cloudy during the morning with spells of mainly light rain or drizzle in places." Pack your ponchos if you're heading to Headingley.

"Morning sunshine has given way to cloud. The high winds remain and it doesn't really feel like a day for cricket. Still, if you are lucky enough to be playing, I suspect you'd rather be bowling and batting. The conditions make Joe Root's comments seem all the more fanciful."
