Australia haven't got off to a flying start but they've got a lot to rely on lower down the order. They'll look to punish the bad ball and that's helped them get to where they are.

  2. Aus 38-0 (Villani 23*, Bolton 11*)published at 10 overs

Shrubsole to bowl the last over of the powerplay - and it's a bit ragged, with Villani pulling a short delivery for four while a couple of wides advance the score, before Bolton heaves a two down to deep square leg. By comparison, Australia were 30-2 after 10 at Taunton.

And a bit of Aussie team news from the men's tour match at Derby - from the Test XI, they've rested Rogers, Smith and the first-choice bowlers (Johnson, Starc, Hazlewood and Lyon) in favour of Shaun Marsh, Watson, Haddin, Siddle, Cummins and Ahmed. Yes, they're playing two wicketkeepers. You can listen to that game here.

  4. Aus 28-0published at 9 overs

A fumble by Amy Jones allows Australia a single, and earns her a glare from Brunt. Bolton, as if energised by that stat I gave you at the end of that last over, helps herself to a two and a single, while Villani pulls another four to move to 18 - already her joint-highest ODI score (her highest being 30 against West Indies last year).

That right bicep of Katherine Brunt is deadly in the outfield. The run-out she effected in the first ODI was magnificent.

  6. Aus 20-0 (Villani 13*, Bolton 5*)published at 8 overs

Shrubsole appeals for a catch down the leg side, and avoids being charged with a wide. The compulsory close catchers are at slip and short mid-wicket for Villani, who cuts a single down to third man. A single takes her to 13, Shrubsole goes round the wicket to the left-handed Bolton, with a short extra cover posted, but she sees off the over - Bolton has five from 22 balls, including 20 dots.

Plenty of England supporters have made their way to Bristol today, with many perching on benches on the boundary edges, close to the action. The face painters have been out in force and dispersed between plenty of young England fans, the odd Australia supporter have had their faces turned green and yellow - much to the enjoyment of their parents no doubt.

  8. Aus 19-0 (Brunt 4-1-11-0)published at 7 overs

Villani finds the boundary again as another shorter ball from Brunt is pulled through mid-wicket, Georgia Elwiss gives chase but can't quite get there in time. A couple of singles added, England could do with an early wicket.

TMS have noticed Rebecca Grundy having to field fine leg at both ends in these early stages, she'll be on a little later to bowl some left-arm spin.

  10. Aus 13-0published at 6 overs

After 13 dot balls, Bolton is finally off the mark when Shrubsole offers a bit of width for the first time and the left-hander steers a four through point. A leg bye rotates the strike.

It's been an excellent start for England. Their opening bowlers are leading the line well. One brings the ball in, one swings it the other way. They complement each other really well and are formidable to face.

  12. Aus 8-0 (Villani 7*, Bolton 0*)published at 5 overs

Another bouncer from Brunt, but this time it sits up well for Villani to hook for four. She then pushes one to point and almost sets off for a run - but after four run-outs on Tuesday, wisely does not risk a quick single to the predatory Lydia Greenway, England's best fielder.

  14. Aus 4-0 (Shrubsole 2-1-2-0)published at 4 overs

A stifled lbw appeal as Shrubsole raps the leftie Bolton on the pad, I think that pitched outside leg stump. But another testing maiden - Bolton, who averages 53 in ODI cricket, is scoreless from her first 12 deliveries.

  15. Aus 4-0published at 3 overs

Brunt tests Villani with a challenging bouncer, the ball is through before the right-hander can complete the shot, and the Barnsley pace bowler completes a maiden over.

  16. Aus 4-0 (Villani 3*, Bolton 0*)published at 2 overs

Anya Shrubsole takes the second over - the Somerset right-arm seamer wasn't quite at her best with the ball on home soil in Taunton on Tuesday. But it's a tidy opening over, just two singles and a leg bye from it.

Between overs, there's a frenzy of activity as members of the ground staff have to put some discs down to mark out the fielding circle. Apparently they were too deep, marked for 30 yards rather than 25...

She more than deserves it, she's had back trouble and has had to fight her way in and out of the side because of injury.

Katherine Brunt is one shy of 100 ODI wickets, and two shy of Isa Guha's 101.

Jenny Gunn, carrying the drinks again today, holds the England record with 115, followed by Clare Taylor with 102, Guha (101), Brunt (99) and Holly Colvin (98). But the all-time record is held by Aussie legend Cathryn Fitzpatrick (180).

  19. Aus 1-0published at 1 over

Katherine Brunt's first ball is helped down the leg side by Elyse Villani for a single, bringing the left-handed Bolton on strike. While she batted in glasses during the last Ashes, it looks like Bolton may have switched to contact lenses - and she sees an early Brunt bouncer well, weaving out of the way.
