Winfield run out (Bolton) 7 (Eng 30-3)

Oh, no... Winfield sets off for a single which was never there, is sent back and Nicole Bolton's direct hit means it's all over for the Yorkshire opener.

  2. Eng 30-2published at 12 overs

Decent shout for lbw from Farrell, with Knight in front of her stumps - but there's no DRS in this series and so the vice-captain remains. Maiden over.

Sarah Taylor is an expressive player, and I wonder whether she might be better off going back up to opener. If you have a player in the wrong place, you're always going to be disappointed.

  4. Eng 30-2published at 11 overs

Australia turn straight to spin with the compulsory powerplay concluded, with slow left-armer Jess Jonassen on at the New Road End. Just a Knight single from a rapid over.

Australia will be delighted, because they've got England exactly where they want them, thanks in no small part to a loose shot from the captain, and a shot of unspeakable awfulness from Sarah Taylor.

  6. Eng 29-2 (target 242)published at 10 overs

Four overs is all we'll see of Schutt at this stage - Australia turn to fellow right-arm seamer Rene Farrell, who's probably more medium-fast than fast-medium but has been preferred to teenager Holly Ferling today. There's a short extra cover catching, with a ring of four fielders behind her, and some tight bowling from Farrell restricts England to just a solitary single.

  7. Eng 28-2 (Knight 16*, Winfield 7*)published at 9 overs

Perry has a slip in, England help themselves to three singles as Elyse Villani is kept busy at mid-on - risk-free cricket is what's needed at this stage for the hosts.

  8. Eng 25-2 (Schutt 4-0-13-0)published at 8 overs

Winfield clips a single past square leg - Schutt has a big grin on her face, along with a thick stripe of sun cream over her nose and cheeks (which her new-ball partner Perry always has, come rain or shine). Knight moves to 14. At this stage, for what it's worth, Australia were 21-0.

  10. Eng 23-2 (target 242)published at 7 overs

There may be rain in the air, but there's still a queue for ice creams at New Road (other food and drink is available). Perry to continue, it'll be interesting to see how long Lanning keeps her main strike bowler going. Winfield swishes and misses outside off stump, eventually managing to work a single.

One thing I'd like to see introduced into the women's ODI game is the two new balls, one from each end, like the men have. We want to see more runs, and this might add more impetus to the innings.

  12. Eng 22-2 (Knight 13*, Winfield 4*)published at 6 overs

Knight turns a well-run two off her toes. That two takes England to 22-2 with the target 242. Clearly thinking of the late, great Richie Benaud with that score... Marvellous.

The umbrellas are going up around New Road as spectators try and shelter themselves from the light drizzle coming down. There are plenty of cheers of encouragement for England from the younger fans in Worcester, despite the less then positive start.

  14. Eng 20-2 (target 242)published at 5 overs

Knight shows Perry a straight bat, pushing the score along with a single - Winfield is timing the ball well but keeps finding the fielders. No point in any silly singles in these circumstances. Looks a trifle parky out there, many of the fans are donning their hoodies.

I can see some rain - it might not be the worst thing in the world for England to get to go off for 20 minutes or so and regroup. It's the sort of light rain through which you might carry on - but if you were off the field, you wouldn't be able to restart.

  16. Eng 19-2 (Knight 10*, Winfield 4*)published at 4 overs

Knight plays and misses at Schutt, who's not as quick as Perry but whose accuracy made a huge difference at Bristol and earned her four wickets (all lbw or bowled). A single takes her into double figures.

Meanwhile, in the England dug-out, Jenny Gunn is biting her nails. As many of the team's supporters will be after that start to their innings.

Winfield does open the batting for her county, so it's kind of the equivalent role here for her.

  18. Eng 18-2 (target 242)published at 3 overs

Lauren Winfield, preferred to Amy Jones today, makes a decent start as her first ball disappears for four leg byes and she guides her second coolly off her legs for four.

    Taylor b Perry 1 (Eng 10-2)

The nightmare continues as Taylor plays across the line and is comprehensively bowled by Perry, the ball hitting middle stump fairly high up. Australia jubilant, England disconsolate. It would be just their luck if it rained now and they got slaughtered on Duckworth-Lewis...
