Dangerous down the order, Jos Buttler. Faster hands than Bruce Lee. He picks a short one from Azhar and sends it sailing flat into the stands. Dropped in the posh seats. England striking back, 300 very much in their sights.

"Newspaper editors love the chance to put Mohammad Irfan and James Taylor in the same photo, from a certain angle - like that handshake from them the other night."

  3. 6 runs

    Eng 237-4published at 42 overs

From 160-3 after 30 overs, England have subsided a bit - they're 69-3 off the last 11 overs. The good news? They've got a lot of firepower left in the hutch - with Moeen, Willey and Woakes still to come.

Irfan is back for Pakistan - he starts well with two runs off his first four, but Taylor turns it into a good over for England with a flat pull that travels all the way for six. Superb shot.

On closer inspection, it was the googly from Azhar that deceived Morgan. What an impact he has had. From 0-128 in his ODI career before today, he's picked up 2-16 in four overs. Taylor the new man, away with a shovelled single to long-on.

"Morgan had made his mind to go down the wicket, but didn't get his body in line and ended up wafting at it as it was quite wide. He'll be frustrated as these two could have taken the game away from Pakistan if they'd built a big partnership."

Eoin Morgan's explosive cameo is over. He charges Azhar, plays all over the top of the ball and for the second time in this innings, Sarfraz whips the bails off.

  8. 16 off the overpublished at 40 overs

    Eng 226-3

England are stepping on the gas here. Too short again from Malik, Morgan picks it and bludgeons it into the leg side for a one-bounce. Two balls later, he repeats the trick. Big over for England.

Huge! That is mega from Jos Buttler, slightly short from Shoaib Malik and that juicy boundary at deep midwicket proves too hard to resist. Down on one knee, into the stands with a ginormous thwack.

Impressive stuff from the right-hander for his first international century, scoring freely around the wicket.

ODI cricket is a strange beast. Azhar Ali is a part-timer and Yasir Shah is arguably the best spinner in world cricket, but the former is outbowling the latter here. Azhar is getting real turn and grip and keeping two highly aggressive batters under wraps. Five singles are all Buttler and Morgan can manage from his latest over.

    Why promote Buttler above Morgan?

"I think Buttler does have a little bit more power-hitting ability. Morgan adapts to different conditions well, but maybe they want to keep Buttler's flow after his innings in the last game. It's interesting that Irfan's back on as soon as Morgan comes in, after he cut him in the last game."

Pakistan sense they've got England on the back foot here and immediately bring on Mohammad Irfan to tighten the screws. It works too, just three off the over. England recalibrating their sights here.

If Eoin Morgan was hoping to buy himself a bit of time to finish the crossword with that batting order change, it hasn't worked. He's out there now, looking to ensure that England keep their momentum despite those two wickets.

Yes, it's a double whammy for Pakistan. Root attempting a reverse sweep, overbalancing, and Sarfraz whipping off the bails before he can get that back foot back. You can file Azhar's decision to bring himself under 'Genius' rather than 'Madness'.
