  1. Eng 202-5 (Root 70, Moeen 2)published at 17 overs

A better end to the over, just two off the last three balls. But it's England's to lose, you feel.

  2. Eng 200-5published at 16.3 overs

Abbott is fraying here, sweaty palms causing the ball to come out sideways and that's a wide.

"England need 10 an over. They've got 10 off two balls in this over so far from Joe Root."

  4. 6 runs

    Eng 198-5published at 16.2 overs

Superb, just superb, we are watching one of the great batsmen in the world game. Root gets one in the slot and sends it soaring straight down the ground in a glorious arc. 31 from 21 needed...

  6. Eng 192-5published at 16.1 overs

Brilliant from Root, just brilliant. Abbott strays onto his legs and Root flicks him imperiously over square leg for four.

Mark: Just shouted NOOO across the office after reading Buttler had been given out.

Jonathan Horrocks: Awful decision from 3rd umpire. De Kock broke the wicket with his right glove and had the ball in his left. Gloves not together.

  8. Eng 188-5 (need 42 off 25)published at 16 overs

Moeen Ali is the new man, and he's off the mark immediately with a push into the covers. Tahir gets a bit lucky off his final ball, leg-sidish but Root can only whack it straight at Amla on the boundary. A superb over, just five runs and a wicket. South Africa in front again?

"It was wide, wide of leg stump, De Kock did well to take it. The ball did come out of his gloves but significantly was in his gloves when he broke the bails. I want to know if it was given as a wide, because it was way down leg side. In a game like this one run could be crucial."

  10. wicket

Buttler st De Kock b Tahir 21 (Eng 186-4)

The pendulum swings again. Tahir has done the trick, luring Buttler out of his crease and De Kock whips off the timbers, with the ball safely in his glove. Big blow for England.

  11. Third umpirepublished at 15.3 overs

What a moment. South Africa think they've got Buttler stumped, but did De Kock spill the ball?

  12. Eng 183-4published at 15 overs

Here's Tahir. South Africa need him to strike in his final over. A wicket would change everything...

  14. Eng 183-4 (Root 55, Buttler 20)published at 15 overs

England are 21 runs ahead of South Africa at this point. Twenty-one. Are we on the brink of one of the great run chases of all time? A few scampered singles make it 13 off the over...

"What a prodigiously talented player Joe Root is. He can play any format and excel at it."

  16. 50 runs

50 for Joe Rootpublished at 14.3 overs

    Eng 179-4

Wide from Morris, before a good throw from Miller keeps England to one. Morris finds the blockhole and again it's just a single. But that is superb from Root, utterly, utterly brilliant, showing a mastery of geometry that would put Euclid to shame to reverse-flick Morris over his shoulder for a six! And that's his fifty off 29 balls!

  18. Eng 170-4 (need 60 off 36)published at 14 overs

208 is the highest run chase in the history of the World T20, in case you were wondering. Tahir still looks South Africa's best hope of slowing this chase, with no boundary from that over, but he's only got one left. Crucial for England to keep these two together...

Si Lomas: I'd be sending David Willey in next as a wild card, wasted at 10 and Ali shown no form with bat.

  20. Eng 167-4published at 13.3 overs

Freebies could be crucial here and there are some for England, three wides off Tahir making their task just a little easier. The 50 partnership comes up off 23 balls...
